I’m keen. More towards the south than the north please. Anymore than an hour straight driving without a break in the raging bull and I need a physio session. :D

@Mel Morgan and I are also keen pending limited availability. Perhaps a Sunday drive down to Shed at Akuna Bay for a quick lunch? ;)

Sounds good. Will have to see what’s best to drive up in. Body can’t handle the long drives in hard core sports cars anymore. Getting old. :p

Surely we have a few more car enthusiasts who would be interested in catching up to talk cars and investing?

@The Falcon would your new baby have arrived by then?

I can make it, falls between 2 Supersprint weekends so my car will be in full time attack trim but I haven't been on a nice drive in a long time! (that wasn't going round in circles)

    Where would we meet?

    Absolutely! :D

Keen to go for a drive to Akuna. Use to do quite a few drives with a sports sedan, currently have a soccer mum SUV (with 600nm of torque :p)

Nothing wrong with a monster SUV. I’ll probably come along in a SUV. What 600nm SUV are you running around in?

Ford F-150 Lightning revealed: an electric truck for the masses

Although it may not make it to Australian shores, but the biggest selling vehicle in North America is lauching as full electric vehicle; I think it's a huge paradigm shift and will propel electric vehicles to ubiquity instead of a niche use case it is currently. Because it's competitively priced compared with the gasoline versions of the F150 (coming with 4WD and dual cab config as standard).

Low cobalt and manganese lithium-ion battery tech - increases the safety margin; so there should be less results of spontaneous combustion on physical impacts; at the cost of slower charge rates - which could potentially put off uptake of potential customers. But as automotive manufacturers have to meet more stringent emissions requirements and government mandates in many countries the world over, I see this as a huge news a fullsize pickup truck capable of meeting the needs of 98% of current pickup truck duties has a starting price of $USD40k.

Which is a weird thing to say anyway, given the torque capabilities of electric vehicles.

10,000lb towing capacity. For those stubborn 'Muricans that believe they haul heavy loads on a regular basis. When Ford owner stats indicate less than 3% of F150 owners tow more than once per year.

In previous iterations Ford introduced the "tiny" v6 3.5 litre ecoboost engine to the F150 lineup; the would be buyers screaming out for straight six turbo diesels and v8 "Power". Sales numbers show the 3.5 ecoboost and the newer 2.7 litre engines are the most popular sellers.

Like I said, it'll be a paradigm shift. The people that believe they "need" the grunt of a diesel or "need" their pickup trucks to do heavy duty hauling will be surprised by the 775 lb-ft torque from the electric motors (1050nm in metric units). If that's insufficient I don't know what current users are using to haul stuff cos that far surpasses anything gasoline powered. So too the "mid 4 second" 0-60 (miles) times.
