There is the Golf R. They are quick. Don't know if they are the most engaging to drive though especially in the auto. I did have an Golf R, 2 generations back. It was the first of the 2 litre motors and I had the auto. Got the APR stage 2 tune on it. Was seriously quick for a little hatch but cant say it was the most fun to drive.

Problem is after having experienced the performance of big capacity engines its hard to find even the quickest of the small turbo charged engines enjoyable anymore. The golf was great when you had your foot down and you rev it right out to get the power out of it. But daily driving it aint much fun. With a big V8 you can just prod the throttle lightly every now and then and that surge you get never gets old.

Agree that on the street they are a bit laggy and not terribly engaging... but still a super well rounded daily.

They are pretty engaging once you let loose on track, with just an APR stage 1 tune and Superpro control arms I was able to slowly pull a gap on a well-driven stock F80 M3. Not everyone goes to the track of course, but thought I'd add a data point.

3984EB59-087F-4D17-8799-EEE2B896B8F7.jpeg The GR has finally arrived. Just picked her up. Only a short drive so far with revs being kept low, but I am impressed. This thing pulls hard. Steering feels sharp. Reasonably comfortable drive. The rear view mirror blocks half of the vision through the front windscreen and the rear windscreen is also tiny with limited view. But overall it’s a great little car.
Can’t believe the amount of tech that comes in a Toyota these days. Pretty much all the gadgetry of the European cars just with more reliability and at a fraction of the price.

Also have to give credit to the guys at Clinton’s Toyota In Campbelltown. They have been great to deal with. Highly recommend.

Hahah. That’s the plates that they put on it at the dealership. Got new ones on order. Black plates gold lettering.

    GR Yaris Mirror Riser 2.1

Now go do 1000 easy km, then take it to a Motorkhana event and watch everyone's faces when your dead stock Yaris sits on podium place in front of all their modified rides :p

A rather nice message arrived in my inbox this weekend!

Clubsprint is the "entry level" class where the regulations are designed to limit speed and expenditure. Some brands/models of car are prohibited, and we have to run a 200-treadwear street tyre.

I built a Lotus Exige throughout 2019 with the aim of competing in Clubsprint but that car quickly reached the point of diminishing returns. Keen to attack the track with my new weapon of choice, a GR Supra:

I've never been to wtac but I'd love to go and have a run in the mx5. There's a few nicely modified ones out there. Is the MCA S13 still floating around? That was pretty wild to watch, or old mate in the old EG civic, I think he went into supercars.

Hammerhead was there in 2019 and went around in 1:21.8... which would be amazing if my old coach Bart didn't beat that by 2.5 seconds in RP968 :)

MX5 is a solid platform, although I suspect the cutoff was pretty strict this year as even Clubsprint will be full of cars doing sub-1:40.

Yeah 1.40 is moving. I've probably got enough power, just nothing else (especially reflexes and skill) to get it there consistently. Maybe when I've had some time to turn it from a street hack to a dedicated track car. I would love a lotus one day so interesting to read about your progression.

Yeah love the sound of the V8’s.
Unfortunately Golf R are auto only these days so pretty much rules out.
A friend has one of the last manual Golf R’s but stock I couldn’t believe how quiet it was compared to the RS. Bit disappointed with that.
Also i can’t head down aftermarket mods route for company car.

    Thanks,

Really need a 4/5 door preferred as need to take family some times. The 5 door minis JCW are now auto only too :(
STI looking more likely at the moment.

First time trying the "Amaroo" south circuit configuration of Sydney Motorsport Park. BMW Club supersprint, 55 cars this round and I managed to finish P3 with a 1:01.148... less than 0.1s away from 1st!

My BIL is going to be selling his replica FORD GT 40 and a Merlyn open wheeler from the 60’s ( formulae ford that apparently came second in worlds ) in the coming weeks .

Is that the sort of thing that interests anyone ?

    I’m not a car person ( Lexus owner ... )
