Looking to make first commercial property investment over next year.

Along the way, I want to learn about zoning and wondering best place to start. I understand post 2006, we now have the "Standard Instrument Local Environment Plan (LEP)".

I'm looking for something beyond the first few google results... textbooks? legal publications? attending council meetings?

How have you acquired info about Zoning?

Although the new LEPs do have some consistency, it may be good to focus on a couple of LGAs where you are interested in and study those LEPs to see how they differ. That will get you familiar with them. Then study their respecitive DCPs and look at recent L&E court rulings in that LGA.

A bit of a pain but probably the best way.

Learn what each zoning permits with and without consent, potential can be unlocked by understanding fsr, height restrictions, parking/landscaping requirements.

I am an expert in zonings, height restrictions, overlays, relaxations and everything else related . I spent hardly any time learning about it . My secret? I take my town planner along :D Personally I find that stuff some of the most boring material ever.
