If the meter is faulty, request a rebate on previous charges.

I had a minor leak on a meter (not much more than a tiny wet spot) they came out the next day to repair .

OP said this: We were out for 10 hours today and the meter was 1KL higher when we came back

Therefore water was running through the meter.

How did the plumber pressure test the system? Did he use a test bucket?

The meter could be leaking on the outlet side.

    10 hours and 1Kl higher

    1000L divided by 10hours = 100L p/h
    100 Lp/h divided by 60 minutes = 1.6 L p/m

so the OP could see the meter spinning
you could even hear a leak of this size

How dose it move if the is no water running through it? ..don't know

-Maybe water is running through it
    - or maybe the meter is faulty ie when the water mains pressure drops the house water backflows into the mains and moves the meter in a funny way

The OP has done all the right things and is now waiting for icon water to inspect and test their meter

How would the plumber pressure test the system
1/ turn off the main feed and bucket pressure test and see if the pressure drops

2/ hook up a pressure gauge to the front hose ****
turn the hose **** on , pressure rises to about 600Kpa, then turn the main feed valve at the meter off and see if the pressure drops

3 / plumber may also test the Hot water lines separate

the plumber also should have checked
the hot water service and TPR valve
    cisterns
    irrigation
    taps
    evap cooler
    water meter
    water bill

I would love to hear the outcome on this one, Icon often estimates water usage when it's 'too hard' to do a meter read and they are absolutely brutal when it comes to their estimates!! I deep down hope that its a faulty meter and Icon's problem :)

if you read them properly , those water bills contain a lot of information .
the estimates all work out in the end , when they do a visual reading
and if you think the estimates are to high, you can do your own reading can contact them

first off , the OP started blaming the plumber
then the OP started blaming the icon water meter

as most people do , they blame everyone but themselves

I agree, most of the time the estimates work out in the long run but I've had a few instances where they have estimated for so long despite having access to the meter and having it all corrected has been a......headache for all involved :). I suppose we will never know unless the OP lets us know the outcome!
