I pay my neighbour(pensioner) to mow the lawn on my rental property.

He does this roughly every three weeks and I pay him cash in hand. It is the only lawn other than his own that he mows.

He wouldn’t have any liability insurance.

If he or someone else is injured whilst cutting the grass on my property, would I be covered by my Suncorp liability insurance or would this insurance be negated because I am paying him?.

    Occupiers liability.
The insurance is governed largely by the contract you entered into. potentially not covered I would think.

What did Suncorp say when you contacted them?

This is a tough one. I'd have to ring an insurance mob to find out what sort of cover is needed as a grasscutter. I reckon probably life insurance.

Not if you have good hearing and keep your Reebok's on :D

What are we thinking the worst case scenario is, the mower flicking a stone into a window or the old bugger losing a few toe's ?

In the event there is no other policy then any injured party would look to the Suncorp policy.

I have public liability insurance for garden/grounds maintenance, in the last 7 years I have broken 2 windows (house window $80, Toyota Prado window $380), not worth claiming as the excess is $750
