    i find myself constantly measuring: rooms, garage, furniture, carpark.... Someone came yesterday to talk about some work and he has a $800 laser thing! It's in his car, I didn't see it and he couldn't tell me the brand.

    Has anyone here used and/or bought one that is good to recommend? Willing to pay a couple of hundred dollars I guess.

    Thanks in advance for sharing.

    @Pumpkin

    Laser Disto Shop

    if it was a $800 thingy it was probably a Leica.
    i have been using Leica products for over 20 years.
    reliable and robust and expensive.
    i think they invented LDM.

    I bought one at the Home Show in Melbourne a few years ago for about $140. Works fine and I use it at work quite a bit (day job is overseeing property refurbishment projects amongst a variety of other things).

    The $150 Bosch from bunnings does a good job. Mines about 5 years old and still going.

    Just don't cheap out and buy an ultra sonic one. Those suck.

    I have the cheaper on, but there are apps that can connect with the bluetooth ones where you can do a floorplan etc......

    When the apps get much better, I will be buying a better one as it gets to be a pain using a laser and trying to enter into a tablet at same time :)

    Also the dearer ones do longer distance, if your measuring blocks etc that are just normal 30m ones the cheaper ones are ok, but if you want to measure 100 or more, need expensive one.

    I have a cheap Bosch laser measure from Bunnings. I think mine is the 20m model. It's great but I would probably go the 40m model next time.

    @dabbler nothing beats a clipboard + paper + pen.

    Tablets are cool, but ineffective when it comes to drawing plans.

    Yeah, maybe, but you can make many mods when digital and I want less paper !

    I like the Apps function and be able to do floorplan. But looks like it's ios only? Anyone for Windows or Android?

    I just note that some are better in sun than the others. Seeing that half the time we'll be using it for external area, will need to make sure this one is checked too.

    For the apps, I use Magicplan and Bosch's own for the Bosch unit. They certainly save time and mistakes in writing down measurements for rooms. Not so much for non-room outside.

    There's only limited benefit in the longer distances if you are going to be by yourself - yes, it can probably go 50m. Can you see the little dot at that range in anything out than darkness: no! I was having trouble seeing it in daylight at 15m away outside.

    Was wondering about one linking to an app .

    Any links / experiences ?

    SWMBO often mentions getting one .

    Sounds like a good Mothers Day Present ......

    I have the Leica D5 which I use for work.. it has a video display which you can zoom in with - great for outdoor and sunny conditions. A bit expensive at $800 or so.. I have the Bosch cheapy backup but it hasn't lasted too long, I'd get the second cheapest Bosch next time around.

    Magicplan is fully featured but costs per export/printing which is a pain. You can screengrab if you really want to though.
    For basic stuff, the Bosch one is good enough if you have a bosch measurer.
    I'm on IOS and don't know android options.
