    Synthetic turf also requires good preparation which will add to the cost. But any type of grass requires good preparation.

    However, it's academic now - the post is two years old, and it appears that the OP went for ground cover. A good choice for both cost and maintenance.

    @robbie_p how did it all go? Any after pictures?
