We have previously used Laminate flooring in living areas including kitchen. However someone suggested Vinyl Planks as it would not be as easily water damaged.

This is for a newly built townhouse. Does anyone have experience with Vinyl planks?

I love vinyl planks - we've used then in two new builds and are using them in the current reno too.

I'd recommend using Vinyl Planks that don't interlock so if one is damaged in the middle of a room (iron, chair leg, V8 engine) you don't have to lift half the floor to get too/replace it.

Min 5mm thick for better wear/life and also doesn't easily lift when vacuuming.

Whilst you could simply lay, if bonding I'd recommend heat tape install which lays like double sided sticky tape rather than trowel adhesive which possibly requires sanding back "if" you replace with something else later.

IMO brown timber floor look is 1980's, go something like a mid to dark grey, not to dark that it makes the room look small but dark enough that any shoe scuff marks etc don't show up easily (blends in)

It's amazing how much quality and price varies between retail stores, shop around, also may find a import wholesaler in an industrial area.

I've just done a quick local run around, can't remember name of product but ticks all the boxes, from a specialist flooring store (not crap from bunnings etc) $45 DIY or $65 installed, 25yr warranty.
