Ok first of all I know I’m walking a fine line here, hence the use of the term “most”.

Anyway it’s been my experience that a lot of women I know get upset when us guys leave the seat up. Why?

So many of us are either sloppy / lazy (not me btw), or find that the *cough* “stream” can...how shall I put it...“separate” no matter how hard we try. Wouldn’t you want guys to put the seat up before they pee? And sure, you could say yes put it up, go, then put it down again, but don’t you get a comforting sense of reassurance to know that the guy didn’t just say he put it up when he didn’t, and there aren’t invisible specks of urine that are still there or dried up?

Ok sure if it’s just your family you could be strict about this but what about guests?

I often leave the seat up out of respect for the ladies but I’m often yelled at for it.

Please enlighten me (not a joke post).

I'd love to know too. My missus has been upset a number of times at me leaving the seat up.

    1. Because it looks neater with the seat (& lid!) down.
    2. So we don't need to rescue the next incautious small child that didn't realise there was no seat

And yes, men are expected to lift the seat, pee & then put it down, not spray everywhere.

If you flush without putting the seat down then your poop particles become airborne. True story.

Which seat part? The sitting part of the lid?

The sitting part it's mainly practical reason.
Try to wee at night and accidentally sit on a cold thin ceramic (worse in winter), plus the feeling like your entire bottom going into the toilet bowl.

Even worse, you notice the other did't aim very well and there's a speck of yellow around the top where you sit o_O

Yeah. I didn't get this until I sat without turning the light on.

There is a lid there for a reason.

Male or female, put up lid (and seat if you want) then close both when finished.

I think myth-busters did a skit on this and proved that poo particles float in the air for meters and land on your tooth brush for example.

Im know an ardent proponent of the seat down brigade :p

I can live with that. What I can’t live with is sitting down on a cold wet seat. God. Damn.

Why would the seat be wet?

It's probably hard to aim in the dark?

But why would anyone be peeing into the toilet (from a standing position) with the seat down? There is a reason the seat can be lifted up :p

Agree. Also, how hard is it to put it down if you want it down? You can whinge, or you can fix it. ;)

because the cold toilet gives me an unexpected fright when I sit down on it expectantly and I fall into the bowl due to the opening being larger without the seat down.

Why cant you boys aim with the seat down? If I can aim while standing up with a good degree of accuracy, surely you boys who have something to actually point with can do it too? :)

Agreed - it looks neater. The exception is unisex toilets at music festivals, for which I'll leave it up.... just to keep the seat clean and dry for the females (by trying to prevent a drunk guy come in a spray all over the place).

Not many seem to give me credit for this though, and usually get daggers...
