true - thought you were in melbourne, 2 pac kitchens (flat pack) in melbourne can be obtained for 2-3K with bulider range stone and you pay and organize separate plumbing and electrical.

Just took another look at the photo on my big computer (looked at it firstly on my phone). That bench top doesn't come close to the wall on all three sides of that corner. No way would I be accept that. If they say "we won't charge you any more, keep the $4.7k then I would keep it, stick a vase over the cut and get a stone top cut when I was ready.

If that is a laminate bench (I thought it was stone too) then no amount of silicone or matching grout will hide that overcut.
Back to kitchen school for those tradies.
I'd want the pantry as per the order and a new bench top.

a new kitchen laminex top shouldn't cost much couple of hundred depending on the look that you have pictured. The top end ones. (diamond gloss cost 1k)

I wouldn't pay them a cent. That is very poor workmanship. Have you spoke to them about it?

    Hi guys,

Well the builder came around this afternoon and he was very unhappy with the benchtop and also pointed out some other minor door alignment (which i didnt notice).

I'm getting a new benchtop installed fist thing on Thursday morning and the minor alignment adjustment.

With regards to the pantry, due to the thicker backing of the pantry cupboards (about 15mm i think), about 12mm space was lost as the previous backing was very thing 2-3mm.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

    Cheers,
    Robbie

New top definately. With the cupboard they can still use the door and back just remake sides and shelves pretty simple eh !

More issues found, below is email email to builder and kitchen installer:

    ------------------------------------------------

    Hi Garry / Mark,

I hope you both doing well.

Now that my wife has started looking at the kitchen in more detail, besides the bench top which is going to be replaced, she has noticed quite a few small issues, which shouldn’t be there when getting a kitchen installed professionally.

    They include:

    Messy silicone work
Cracked piece of wood next to dishwasher
Visibility of drill holes on handles
Deep scratch in backing of bench top (covered by silicone)
    Scratches inside drawers
Large gaps between bench top and wall (mainly against wall of benchtop to be replaced) – Splash backs shouldn’t be relied upon cover this (other benchtop was done fine)

Pictures of the above have been included.

Also, my wife is concerned about the depth of her pantry cupboards. The previous cupboards had a depth of 280mm with a 5mm mdf backing (therefore 285mm in total). The new cupboards have a much smaller depth of 235mm and even with a thicker backing (15-20mm?), therefor the total depth is 250-255mm, atleast 30-35mm loss.

With the extension of the nib wall by 100mm, I was never under the impression that my cupboard depth would decrease by 45mm. With the extension of the nib wall and looking at the new cupboards, there is about a 50mm allowance for additional depth, so why wasn’t it utilised?

The main reason I decided to get a kitchen professional installed was to avoid the above as well as put my trust in the professionals in terms maximizing my current space (not reducing it).

    I await your feedback.

    Cheers,
    Robbie

No, not over reacting. Ask the question about the cupboard depth. That Dodd t make sense to not use the available space. If cupboards are made to measure it's no difference to make it deeper.
The gap in your photo in the group photos is not excessive. The tile glue will be that thick. It's not easy to get a bench top snug against a wall as walls are generally not square.
It puts a bad taste in your mouth when things go wrong like that. Hope it LSL works out snd you can enjoy your new kitchen.
