Damn MTR you have expensive tastes.

I reckon if a kitchen costs > $10K (or anywhere north of $6K for that matter), I'm being ripped.

    OK
But it is for my primary residence. The old kitchen was around this price point, however, its dated and has some water damage

Also its not money down the drain as it
absolutely will add value to the property

Appliances alone would cost at least that much... I can't imagine getting a quality kitchen anywhere near $10k

That's a helluva lot for a kitchen to prepare 2 minute noodles :p

PS: check the maths, $58k-$31k is only a $27k saving. Less if you have to pay GST on landed cost.

I cant post suppliers on PC as my g/friend has taken years to source these people/suppliers and part of her business.
She beings in containers, they have 24 hours to empty these when they arrive
I certainly will post before and after photos

How did they measure it up, have they got someone on the ground over here who measures and sends them the dimensions

    She designed the kitchen
Her partner is a builder/carpenter, he measured everything. They do this all the time

These houses were completed with most product coming from China. Check out the specifications

Nothing too extraordinary for doing it this way.

Many shopfitters went that way 15-20 years ago as they found large savings to be made with repetitive works. The biggest issue (which remains) is the QA aspect - unless you have some reliable eyes on the ground, there can be major quality issues. Getting someone into the country at present is out of the question.

If it were that simple why are we all not doing this? and saving pots of money

You need to be able to source quality suppliers, its taken her years of trial and error to do this

discounts on product comes down to quantity, so you need to have volume.

For example she may need to buy 100 baths, so you need cash and storage Space

also regulations when containers come in you have 24 hours to empty these

We ordered some pool Lights from China worked out well. But I could not do what she is doing.

I understand perfectly as I know how this market works. Your girlfriend is a savvy operator who knows how it all works. How fortunate you have such a friend as a contact:cool:

I got a hardly used brand name dishwasher for $30 recently. Have purchased almost new oven and cooktops for < $200. But I guess if you have the money or rather the inclination to spend then....

I am not against cheaper kitchens, whatever suits

However, Do you consider resale value of the property as to what may be best option? I am not selling, but this kitchen is pretty much what buyers expect.

Also my partner is a foodie and loves cooking, so this suits our lifestyle

I’ve been partied to the procurement of $millions of kitchens and bathrooms from China over the years. To be brutally honest, we take a full designer kitchen/ bathroom, dissemble it, ship it to China, reassemble it the factory and spend weeks getting it copied exactly. All the volume builders do it. I won’t divulge details but we use intermediaries that have people on the ground there and fly over to ensure everything is being procured as briefed. They’re great at what they do but very realistic and transparent of the fact that it will not be the exact same quality and there will be site measurement/ fitting issues.

Note of warning!! If you take site measures and it’s built as measured, this can be a big risk and we’ve spent thousands upon thousands manipulating the kitchens to fit perfectly.

Tip - make your design as flexible as possible.

    Looking forward to the results!

    Thanks for the heads up
I would not venture down this road unless I had g/friends involvement
She completed 19 apartments, product all from China and I got to view the end result, very slick.

In good hands, this procurement method can be very lucrative and very cost effective.

You appear to be in good hands.

    Keep updating!

Hopefully your walls are square @MTR as that is the hardest thing about putting kitchens into older houses vs brand new places. I'm sure the local installers will be able to shim and shave to get it to fit right if it isn't.

And we would still have to shim and shave to get a budget flatpack to fit. Well done @MTR
