What sort of poison or method that I can use to prevent this shrubs and small trees to grow again?

There are also some trees with a diameter of 5 - 10cm with less than 4 metres tall.

Assuming the poison can be administered by drilling or spreading it on top of the stump after pruning/trimming.

Drill holes in stump. Pour strong round up/black berry killer in holes

Liberally spray kerosene, turpentine, petrol or your other preferred accelerant over the plants. Many plants don't tolerate fire and won't regenerate.

Get a burn off permit from your local fire authority.

What about spreading salt on the shrubs area?
would that be possible as well.

Playing with fire won't be liked by the neighbor I'm afraid.

Why not just dig up the roots or get a stump grinder in (though it all seems overkill for a few shrubs and saplings).

Polluting the soil with salt is pretty irresponsible.

Incidentally, why go to all this trouble? Once cut down they may never grow back.

Yep, I’ve killed even very large trees with this method. I use around a 10 mil drill, drill holes around every 50 mm apart at a downward angle into to the outer sapwood. Then simply fill the small holes to top with full strength roundup / cheap Glyphosate 360.

So effective is this I managed to kill a tree I wanted around 12 metres away. They were the same variety and the roots had grown together unbeknown to me.

If they’re smaller trees / shrubs then just cut then off above ground level and paint straight roundup on the top of the stump. Only on the outside sapwood is really required. They won’t regrow. You must paint the poison on within 20 seconds of cutting it down otherwise the tree covers the area with a protective sap preventing the poison from getting into the sapwood.

Contrary to what was said above many trees / shrubs cut down will regrow if not poisoned.

But before doing so consult your lawyer to prepare a class action against Monsanto in the event of future illness from using the stuff.

Get a special drill bit for just such things. Buy some stump killer powder and pour into holes with hot water. Come back in a month and dig it out. Alternately rent a stump grinder or hire someone to do it.

If you want to stop ANYTHING from regrowing in the area without roundup, salt will make the soil completely inhospitable.

Not sure about that. You’d need a LOT of salt and nothing else will grow in the area for a very long time. Glyphosate 360 is $9.99 for a litre at Bunnings and it’d take less than 50 ml to kill a smaller tree. So 50 cents worth. The rest can then be used to kill weeds for the next year or two. A couple of weeks later and anything will grow in the area treated by Glyphosate.

Stuff like that I just run over with my mower ;)
    No roundup required :p
Just mow over regularly and eventually the plant uses up all of its energy reserves and dies naturally :)
Yes, I do have a bloody big lawn mower

I was referring to weeds in garden beds containing shrubs and trees. You will need more than a bloody big lawn mower for that.

For weeds in the lawn there are excellent herbicides that kill the weeds but not the lawn which I use. And despite robust rainfall and excellent lawn here weeds will eventually takeover regardless of how often it is mowed. Being surround by farmland at the back many weed seeds blow in from the neighbouring paddocks.

I assume most who don’t like using herbicides have never lived on acreages with extensive garden beds and trees etc.

However for our small orchard and extensive vegetable gardens no toxic sprays are used anywhere in these areas. All near organic.
