I wish everyone would do this!

When interstate people buy houses here I usually go pick up the keys after settlement and some houses have like a whole Tupperware container of keys!

And most of the keys are outdated and don't work anywhere.
One house we bought we got around 20 keys, most useless.

My parents had each house's master set of keys on a ring, but they also had managed to collect a plastic container full of spares or "not sure what that key is" copies, that didn't have an obvious home. They were never game to throw them out because sometimes we would find a key that fitted something and didn't know it was missing from the master set of keys for a house.

So it was tempting to just bin the lot, but they never were game to do it.

When we took over the houses, each time a tenant would leave, I'd take the container over and sit by each door and try every key in the container. I still couldn't throw them out until I'd done that for each house.

It took a while to go through each house as it came up for rental, but eventually I was able to chuck them all out. It was a mental burden.

That is what I'd like as I've just been overseas and still managed my airBNB - If I could change the code remotely that would be awesome - I wonder if the one he uses would work I've heard you can send a code to the guests phone.... the August is supposed to do it but it's not cheap and needs wifi (Which I do have) About $300 from ebay (not in Australia, unfortunately.
