Quick question for those to are in Melbourne.

Today in Brisbane should be cold and probably windy. However, I'm sitting here wondering if I might end up turning on the aircon if it gets to the estimated 31 degrees.

It feels like it is mid 20s in my office. I'm very comfortable in an elbow length, lightweight blouse.

In two weeks we will have several days in Melbourne. I see today it will reach 15 degrees. So I'm planning on layering, wearing what we would wear in Brisbane, but adding a singlet style tee to go underneath and jackets and scarves to keep warm.

Just how cold is it in Melbourne at the end of August/early September. I can easily google average temps (and I have done that), but if someone did that for Brisbane August temps they'd get 11 to 21. And clearly if I took that seriously, I'd be sweltering today.

So, from those actually in Melbourne, I'm keen to know if singlet, shirt (with light jumper, warm jacket, scarf and gloves in the pocket) sounds like we would have our bases covered?

Being Melbourne at the junction of winter and spring, I would add a beany, maybe a coat like people wear on the ski slopes (those padded pants might not go astray, either),umbrella, long johns, balaclava. That should cover it.

And possibly a bullet proof vest given the recent spate of shootings

As my kids have asked: "Dad, why are those people wearing jumpers? It's only 15 degrees..."

    Sounds about right.
Depends how much time you are thinking of spending outside.

When I go for a walk in the morning, it is full on beanie, ski gloves, merino jumper, Columbia Omniheat jacket sort of thing.

Today (like almost every day this winter), I'm wearing a tee-shirt & woolen jumper. When it gets really cold I've got a big hoodie or a parka if it's raining. It's actually gotten quite a bit warmer over the last few weeks.

    I also wear pants. Definitely.

This time of the year it can be as low as single figure top-temps, and as high as low to mid 20's top-temps....mostly the former and up to around the low teens.

Today currently about 13, with strong Northerly winds which makes the wind-chill adjustment back below 10 degrees I'd say...certainly feels like it.

I'm going to take the first dip of the season.

What happened to the Ekka winds this year?

It's lovely today. Only managed 66 seconds in the pool. I need a water heater.

The winds will come. 30 years of living in Brisbane and I don't recall the Ekka winds not arriving. Late means a hot summer my grandmother told me.

I'm not in Melbourne but grew up there. In two weeks time, I'd go for a couple of t-shirts (one vest might suffice), a jumper or hoodie, long johns and a quality pair of track pants. Wear layers. Get one of those rain coats that folds up to the size of 5c piece.
