Hi Galvo - any chance of hearing about your experiences in Detroit? Very keen to learn about the market as I’m just starting my own research to see if I can convince myself that buying a place there is a good investment.

You couldnt pay me enough to invest there......but yes some aussies on the ground are making a living from doing it. But you have to be there in person and paying very very very close attention - this isnt like the Aussie rental property market.

 

I'm just jetting off to NZ but I've bought in Atlanta and Detroit and very happy I jumped in. I'll post more later in a separate thread so as not to steal this show!

 

I've also thought about starting a thread. I'm no expert but I can post about my experience with LLC's and international tax.

Off hand I can think of:

- Getting started in the US
- Asset protection
- Banking and finance
- US tax which can include tax treaty benefits, deductions/write offs and estate planning
- Types of investing

 

Hi Jordan - How about starting with the basics; 'getting started in the US' (experiences, things to read, pitfalls, etc)? As a complete newbie for the US, any info would be helpful.

US tax laws are very complicated and now there is the introduction from IRS requiring further financial information from foreigners

From my experience its important that investors have a very good skilled US accountant on board to guide investors through the maze

I would be interested on Estate planning if you care to share

 

I started to write a more detailed guide and lost it all. I'm about to submit a brief guide and can add to it along the way if needed.
