My wife did that, many years ago, before I had met her.

She didn't realise for quite a while that the reason her boss went into all the rooms before she went in to clean was to collect the tip meant for herself.

Pretty much everything, if having to do it as a career.
If it's not the job that sucks, it would be the routine around it.

    Would never do again:

Anything that requires catching public transport to on a daily basis.

Anything that is more than a 30 minutes commute from where I live.

Anything where I am not the boss.

Anything that requires me to work weekends or nights.

Anything that regularly requires more than 8 hours "work" a day.

Agree with all your points, but this one in particular.
Which basically removes the classification as a "job" or career if you are the boss, as you can generally do whatever you want, your call.

'Normal life'. Could be a master at that job and utterly miserable at the same time. Never again no matter the opposition.

I have done cleaning but not for a hotel room. Offices and schools for me. I did not like it at all.

My second job after leaving high school was checkout operator for a major supermarket. I didn't like it, I wasn't good at it and I lasted 6 days. It wasn't fun for me :(

Worst department store job I had was price auditor. Job is to scan every item and fix anything wrong. You get paid slightly more than regular staff but its the most boring thing to do... the boss used to get the quiet (well behaved) Asian students to do it (maybe they wouldn't complain?) And you had to be self motivated because you didn't have a supervisor but I could not do that long term.
Most interesting was to work in store refits. And the most fun part of the store to work in was the garden section. But they got rid of that 2-3 years ago... plants are too fragile.

That does not sound fun at all. It sounds a lot like stocktake, which I have also done and did not like at all. I lasted one day!

I think I would like that better too. I like renovating, so it would probably suit me more than counting :p

    Need to edit this...
Biz said - Anything where I am not the boss.
I read it as you being the boss.
Why would you not want to be the boss?
You get all the money and can do whatever you want, within reason.

If I have to do any one thing for more than a few years I start to hate it.
Worst job I've had wasn't due to the work, it was the boss I had...

Overall though I can't ever imagine being a design/consultant engineer for life. I did it for 2.5 years and that was enough to last me a lifetime.

    I feel how you mean...
Throughout my working history, I've been able to endure more and more as I got older.
First job was a couple of months, next was 12 months, then a couple of years, then a few years after that, with most recent being self employed for 12 years, but that's getting boring now too.
First job outta school was a wood machinist, soooo boring.
It was driving my mind insane, extremely mentally painful to endure this type of environment.
Some of the guys in the factory had been there for a long time and they would have to be zombies working there doing repetitive movements day in day out, counting the hours to morning tea, then lunch, then home, sick.

Haha. Sounds like me. My first job out of high school was Junior Factory Hand in a furniture factory. Mind numbing does not begin to describe it.

It was a long time ago so I don't remember what the workers were like. However, more recently when I was "between jobs", I worked at Tip-Top for 2 days in the factory. The workers there loved it. I have never seen a workplace with so many happy and relaxed people in my life. I guess it comes down to personalities.

+1 for anything where I was not the boss. My husband thinks he is my boss but I'm really his boss, but sometimes I let him think he is the boss.
When we used to get our dog groomed (stopped paying to have it done since he kept catching fleas after each treatment), I used to think this would have to be the worst job in the world. I could not fathom why anyone would want to drop the 50 or 100k or whatever it is to buy a franchise to wash dogs for a living. I was with my sister one day when I ran into the dog wash lady at the supermarket once (she was out of uniform), and my sister actually said to me, why did your friend smell like a dog?
I also couldn't do any physical tradie work. Its too hard! I really don't know how those lady tradies do it!

Also would hate to work in hospitality- especially a cafe, fast food, restaurant etc. I would stuff everything up and wouldn't be able to keep up with the pace. I worked in fast food outlets after school as a teenager, I cringe when I think back to it.

I did 3 nights at KFC and failed. Had bad dreams of making burgers and forgetting to put in the chicken....
