    27 - nice.
I wasnt trying to make Melb sound great - just replying to Gockies post relating to the afternoon thunderstorm changes.
None of hers or my posts relate to Brisbane, of course, but she mentioned it as how it relates to Sydney - just throwing in my 2c for our neck of the woods as a comparison.

    Got 15 mms overnight.

That makes 78 mms (or 3 inches) so far this year.

I am happy on two fronts:- it’s raining and it’s too wet outside to do any gardening :D.

It's finally raining in Canberra. With any luck, it may clear some of the smoke haze.

I can't tell if there's much rain on the NSW south coast.

    Tell me about it.

I won't be able to do my watering today.

While nice, not much rain here but I understand a little further South in Tuggernong it was 8 mm in 30 minutes. Very little elsewhere so localised falls.

Not much here but we'll take anything. The Hunter tends to fall between systems coming from the south and those coming from the north ... and often misses both.

G6oing we get at least some over the next 4 days

In recent years, January rainfall hasn’t been that great.

According to my records, totals for January have been:

    2016 71mms
    2017 152 mms
    2018 17 mms
    2019 45 mms

So far, we have had 99 mms. With current forecasts, it looks likely that we might beat 2017.

This year could be the highest January rainfall for the last 5 years ;).

Sydney and a good % of NSW has had a bit of rain over the past 2-3 days as well.... hopefully the heavier weather predicted for the weekend drops plenty over all of at least most of the fire affected regions

Well we have been in drought for the last few years. Maybe a little premature, but "I feel it in my bones" that maybe the worst of this drought has finally broken. Seeing rainfall out west that hasn't seen any for a long time.

Some science backs that with the positive Indian Dipole now weakening.

We received another 88mms overnight. It was good, soaking rain.

That takes us up to 187mms for this year :).

That now exceeds the Brisbane long-term average for January, is the most rain we have received in January for 5 years and is more than 30% of what we received in 2019.

And we are only 17 days in 2020, with more rain to come in the next few days.

I trust the rest of Australia is getting some of this action.
