    First, something funny.

That is not an optical illusion. It really is lavender inside.

@Leo2413 @Westminster, have you ever seen such a thing?

Now what I was telling @Leo2413 about earlier. We have been doing the tiling and had a very hard decision to make. At first glance it looks good

    However, look closer and...

    20180120_145034.jpg

It's heartbreaking. I know @Leo2413 and @Westminster will feel my pain.

Bascially, the builder said we could not tile the floor. We had to either use their tiler or hire our own pro. They told us their tiler was really good. So, we had a choice of matching the floor grout lines or and having the shower niche off centre or centering the grout line on the niche and being off on the floor. I chose to centre the grout line on the niche because it is at eye level, whereas most people won't notice the atrocity near the floor. I could cry about it though :(

Nothing a good shower floor mat can't solve ;) Nice silver trim with the niche. Like the stone top in the laundry.

Is that bottom right tile scratched?

Thanks. That trim was difficult to install but I like it. The bottom tile just has chalk on from the factory. It will dissappear during grouting.

Beats me about the floor tiler. He's aligned the joints on the side wall yet didn't come close in the other direction. All he needed to do was cut the border tile to match.

Yes, the builder insisted on doing the floors. They told us their tiler is good.

The floor got put down first now we are doing walls. On the side walls we could match his grout lines. For the wall with the shower niche we had 2 options:

    1. Match the floor grout lines, in which case the niche tiles would be off centre

    2. Centre the tiles to the niche, in which case the floor grout lines would not match

We went with option 2 but it is unfortunate

The builder supplied. I assume it is a mispaint from China and the builders buyer has picked up a container load cheap. The unit in the pre start office is white

I can't tile so I've never considered taking it out of contract. How much money do you estimate you saved doing it?
Thankfully I have put extra money into the kitty for when I use this same builder this year so I can use 300 x 600 tiles

I don't remember how much they quoted to do the wall tiling. I will look it up and let you know.

    As of November 2016:-
Tiling the bathroom to the ceiling was approx $1,525 extra
Tiling the ensuite to the ceiling was approx $2,570 extra

We deleted all wall tiling from the laundry (splashback), kitchen (splashback), bathroom (standard tiling) and ensuite (standard tiling) and got a $1,850 credit.

Total gain to us was $5,945

However, we spent a couple of thousand on tiles I guess. Then glue, grout, silicone etc.

That said, I don't think I would have been happy with the job the tiler did if he tiled to the ceilings on all walls. It takes a level of care and our tiler was a bit sloppy.

I will try to upload some pictures of the builder's tiling work. It's not ideal by any standard. If your job gets the same tiler then I would have my concerns.
