It may be structurally ok but cannot say that looks normal by any means. I recommend you get a an expert to have a look at it to be on the safe side.

    600x600 rectified tiles!

Might have to be screeded before the tiles are laid. But actually, I thought the top surface looked quite good? I would tile over it ;)

Don't panic, whilst it isn't great, it is fine. Reo is for form boards, they have pulled it away before it has cured and taken some concrete with it. Cracks are artificial. Provided you have 10mm or less of difference across main floors you shouldn't have to screed. Unless they use the spray, the brickies should parge the edge of the slab which will neaten it up a tiny bit if it bothers you, but once the walls are up you will forget about it.

Scott No-Mates had the correct answers right from the start.

@Perthguy are you getting any independent building inspections done? If so - at what stages?

Edit - The cracks are not artificial, they are indeed real and superficial. My proclaimed knowledge of the English language may be artificial.

A few points of reason as a builder Myself.

-If you pushed hard to lower the price, your trades are pushed hard to deliver on budget.. Sadly thats what the result is.

-If pricing was set reasonably id ask the builder to have this rectified, otherwise it will set the tone for the rest of the job.

-If its a project builder your going with, leave it be step back and close your eyes. Thats what their sites are always like unfortunately.

Thanks for the info. I didn't push for a low price. I actually picked the builder because of their good build quality. I don't think they are a project builder as such. They do build a lot in my area and I have inspected their completed properties and they are finished well. But then I could not see the slab, so... :)

Yep! That's why I asked who's doing the build.

@Perthguy, I was thinking about this on my way to work, I guessing by your post timing the slab may have been poured early this week, when it was raining? Might explain a bit.

24 to 48 hours before the rain. I think the rain was good timing!

Rectified!! Hope your builder has a top-class tiler and a very patient one at that. Best of luck. :)

Perfect. That will neaten it up and cover the "bad" bits. Rain a couple of days into the cure will be good for it too as it doesn't dry as quickly. Less surface cracks.

Best part to take out of it is the learning experience of the process. Watching the progress is exciting and stressful all at once. I understand your concerns. Learn to trust your builder.

I may source my own tiler. I would not trust 55m2 of rectified tiles to just anyone.

True story: I was at a tiling supply shop today talking to the staff. One was a tiler for 9 years and reckons to definitely DIY if the slab is reasonably level. I will have to put a straight edge on it to confirm but maybe this will a DIY job!

Everyone has answered but I'll add my 2 cents :)

The edging is disappointing. They pulled off the form work too early and made everyone's life harder but it's ok.

With the brickwork they don't work to the slab, they setout from their proper points so yes the outside skin of bricks will cover the sides of the slab imperfections and when they lay the internal skin on top of the slab there should be enough slab still to lay on top.

You may find quite a distance between the outside skin and the slab due to the bits missing here and there but again should be ok.

I would definitely think about getting a few inspections done during the process just for your own peace of mind. My pick is Building Inspections in Perth, WA - 08 9444 9562

From what I know it will be fine. I think I got a bit of a shock because I am used to seeing poured concrete driveways, which have a much smoother edge.

Thanks. I am definitely looking into this option.

It seems ages since we sat down and looked at the plan for this one. Now it's at pad down and full steam ahead! Equal parts exciting and nerve-racking! :)
