I grew up near Byron and always used to say it would be a great place if it wasn't for the locals and tourists :D

I doubt it's changed much in the past 7 years since I left.

    It's gotten worse id say.

We were last there a few years ago and i decided i was done with the town.
We did stop in at lennox head which was nice but it's being taken over to. It's a cool funky town but didn't have the friendly town feel that a town that size should. It's getting a pretentious feel.... could be a good place to invest though to make some money off the tree changes. @ellejay you should have a look at the commercial properties there, i think it's going to grow very quick in the short term. The main street doesn't seem big enough for the number of people around and there's a lot of cashed up trendy tree changers from Sydney. I was there pre school hols late last year and tailgaited through the main street by a little vw convertable who want impressed with my safe driving (35 in a 40 zone!), he needed to get to the beach for a frappe and yoga and no one was slowing him down. It's a shame those little things can make a lasting impression on a town. It was not the town i was expecting, and we scratched it off our list of places to move to

Personally I am partial to Nambucca Heads - I haven’t been up there for a while now but have always enjoyed my inspections there.

There was an article on Byron recently (can't remember if it was SMH highlighting the retail activity in town). Council there is very anti-anything and even the existing development has overloaded stormwater infrastructure leading to minor but frequent flooding.

Seven years? I wrote off Byron 20 years ago when it took half an hour to drive from the highway to the beach and there were zero parking spots. Byron was "real" 35 year ago. We had a holiday at Lennox Hds recently though. Now that place is gorgeous.

Don't think I'd want to drive in outback WA, good luck to those who do it!

A mate and I are doing a charity rally for the Cancer Council from Adelaide to Cairns this year - 3800km over a week.

The fun bit is we have to do it in a vehicle worth less than $1000 and it can't be anything remotely appropriate for driving the track.

We've just come through Nambucca Heads, did a nice walk from the TO to the beach.

I reckon any puchase in Byron would put me seriously in the red and I don't want to go back to a real job just yet.

    Byron is a funny place!
They are anti everything ladi dah hippy bonaza :p ... but yet it's all the people from the city moving in as "corporate hippies" who think they are "free" yet want the 5 star resorts and poodle washing services. which require the infrstructure! they can't have it both ways.
It's no longer care free hippy central. it's big business!
