I thought The Lap went all around the outside. I imagine it would get boring after a while. We are doing the eastern half in April and May next year - Broken Hill, Flinders Ranges and Adelaide; Uluru, Alice Springs and Kings Canyon: Darwin and Kakadu then home via Winton. 6-7 weeks in the dry season.

Bob - when do you expect to be in Bris?

    I've done that one too.
Lots of fun in an XB Falcon with no air conditioning in Summer...

Done quite a bit of travelling around our wide brown land.....mostly northern Australia but have been all around and about for a look while I (also) did some work.
Best advice I can give is to slow down....and enjoy the views and the very subtle changes to our country.

Too many people miss too much trying to drive too far and too fast....saying it all looks the same....:)
Take your time and explore along the way - have a picnic every day - camp out when the sun goes down - watch a brilliant star show every night for free.
We are very lucky to have such abundance of space - few other countries can offer this opportunity.

Used to work out of Broome up in Dampier Archipelago near Cockatoo Island. Lots to do and see if you like nature and scenery.
Broome has grown up a bit now - turning into a real town.
    Enjoy the trip.

Some of the posts here sound more like a truck drivers log than any sort of sight seeing trip. If you need to get there quick catch a plane.

I've driven 8-12 hours plenty of times to get to what I wanted to see.
Doesn't mean I didn't see things while driving. They just went past pretty quick. Power tourist!

    Maybe on a ferry.
I think you'd stuggle with a plane, unless it was like a DC10.

I did 'the lap' on a motorbike when I was younger and sillier. It wasn't planned. I went down to Melbourne to visit a cousin and kept going. Did it in 19 days and probably missed seeing a few things. I've done bits of it again since, but at a more sensible pace.

Woah, that would have been a bit of painful experience for that long?
I know someone who rode from Mt Isa, down South via Townsville and the coast. Wasn't a road bike either, so wasn't very comfy.

Only just got internet! Drove from Daly Waters to Kunners today. Not doing much tourist stuff because we lived in Kunners and Broome so done most things.
Hope that's all the rain done for a while..

I'll look out for your 2 finger salute!

Nice one, did you go to the Daly Waters pub?
Did you go for a swim in Mataranka?
Jealous, I went to work with a case of the Mondays ;)

Aiming for the bungle bungles tomorrow then kununurra in a few days. I was hoping we'd be following behind that rain. Not a fan of camping in the rain

Yes, had a meal at the pub and stayed at one of the cabins. Didn't do Mataranka this time as we did it a couple of times when we did a stint in Darwin.

Must admit I've lost interest in regular work. This is my 4th week off and don't miss it. It has a purpose though even if it's just to save a deposit and get more finance. Hopefully you can pack the job in when you're ready.

I love the bungles. The rain has freshened things up. Looks from the forecast like it's clearing over here. Agree camping in rain is the worst but weather will hopefully dry up :)

Looks like hard work on the moto between the extreme heat, rain and whatever else. Seen people cycling though along roads with a five or more hour drive between towns. Defies belief, would be amazed to follow them for a while as they seem to have virtually nothing with them.

I heard people cycling between some YHAs can get a free night's stay. May or may not be possible still....

Sounds tough. I suppose they expect you to cook em too?
Great, you've given me a hankering for chilli crab now ;)
