Definitely love is enough! He hogs the bed, snores, farts, but I wouldn’t have it any other way now. I run my fingers through his hair as I’m going off to sleep. Are dogs included in the survey?

I was listening to a podcast the other day about romance stories and how it was first written for entertainment for the common folk in the 17th century (or somewhere thereabouts). The thing is they saw it for what it was, entertainment but romance so ingrained in western culture that many often mistake romance for love today and wonder why their lives aren’t like a Disney Movie.

I go with option 2, love is a choice that your work at. The feeling itself isn’t enough.

Love is a choice that you make every day. For a marriage to work, it takes both of you to make it work.

I think many confuse lust for love, and when that initial lust fades, they move onto the next person.

Is there a maximum amount of people you can love?
    Relos, family wives, offspring?

I'd like to add to my Relationships Counselling post on the previous page. I few months back I was reminiscing our 40+ year marriage and announced to anyone who would listen that the key to a long marriage is to treat each other as though they are a puppy. Let's face it, puppies pee and poop everywhere, they cry all bloody night and keep us awake and can be downright annoying. But heck, who doesn't love their puppy unconditionally and for all the right reasons.

You are very loyal and you have done better than something Italian or German where the maintenance can empty the wallet very quickly.

I personally don't think I could ever be close friends with someone I loved once I had moved on

Much more to it. You will struggle if you don't share at least some interests.

    Nope. Love is not enough.
I fell madly in love with a guy a couple of years ago. But he was so dysfunctional in life that it never would've worked between us. He still contacts me every so often to see if I'll reconsider. I know I still have love for him but the answer will always be no.

I love this. It's got love, a plot twist and dogs. Lots of dogs.

One of the best threads here. :)

I'm aromantic (yes we exist but we aren't very common from what I can gather) so don't really get love of the romantic kind at all.

Puppies don't mind if you pat another puppy.
Call you puppy the wrong name and it won't notice.
Bring home a second puppy, generally no problems.
Lock you partner or your puppy in the boot of the car for a while and see which one still loves you when you open it.
    etc.
