I've worked out how to put someone on ignore but I'm wondering if you can also prevent someone from posting on a thread you start

    I'm not going anywhere.

(but yes the ignore feature leaves a lot to be desired, there are still a few places where their redacted name still appears, I use another forum which has a better implementation)

Simon any chance of implementing a thread blocking feature?

I use a forum that has both thread and person blocking, I don't think I've ever used the person blocking feature but the thread blocking one is the best as it lets you ignore all the stuff that's not relevant to you.

I have made many requests for a more fully functioning ignore system that works not just for ignoring specific users, but also for threads and entire discussion forums.

If the software developers don't introduce this functionality in the next major update, I'll invest the resources into building this functionality myself.

For example, if you're not interested in discussion about Politics, then you should be able to ignore that topic completely so that no threads show up in the new posts searches and so on. This should also work for specific threads you have no interest in.

Excellent thank you! Politics is what I'm after actually, I try to avoid it for the most part. If you want an example of it done well check out Neogaf. I've been using it for about a year and I've had zero complaints.

By omitting certain posters you are basically denying yourself the full spectrum of opinions.

I know what you mean. There are some posts that are really whacky and make no sense. But I think it's best to accept everyone and in that way you are not leaving any stone unturned.

Is exclusion desirable? As a feature? Isn't the world more leaning the other way? To inclusion?

Or, while an "Ignore" button exists, simply ignore them. Works for me. :D

Yes that's why Simon has made many requests for a more fully functioning ignore system that works not just for ignoring specific users, but also for threads and entire discussion forums. I didn't really find excluding posters a problem years ago but as the forum has expanded with more users (some who are very annoying and repeatedly post the same old stuff), I would find it a valuable feature

Agree. If I've decided I'm not interested in what a particular individual has to say (or sometimes doesn't have to say) the ignore everything option is perfectly acceptable. Works for me too.

Is there a way to find out the number of members that have you on ignore. Just curious.

Really? Exclusion is a really bad idea. Deliberate exclusion by name is a really bad thing to ask for. Inclusion is a really good thing even if it means ideas different to yours, even if spelling is grating, or if English is not the best.

Maybe a more useful approach is one which finds out who has you on ignore. :)

Essentially a private thread which is a bit weird I think.

    I disagree!

Say, for example, there is a poster that is very bearish on a particular suburb, and every time that suburb is mentioned get's their knickers in a knot & continually puts down the area and the people who live and/or invest there, to the point that this person convinces others that only a loser would spend money there, despite the fact that there are many successful investors investing in the area.

This same person could be a valuable member on many other discussions, but just takes issue with this one area. Stopping them from posting in that one thread, & derailing the conversation could be a good thing.:p
