Who made the rule that atheists can't go to heaven?
    Or is that just assumed?

I would suggest you haven't given that idea very much thought.

Just pretend to know something you don't know just in case of an eternal reward.
How about doing something because it is just the right thing to do, help a fellow human being for no other reason because it's the right course of action.

The problem here is that there is no right or wrong, depending on who you ask.
Things that were considered wrong centuries ago are now considered right in modern day, and vice versa.
You make your choices and live with the consequences.
Many people have been living a lie their whole life, any they don't even know it.
Some people do know it, but do it anyway.
Life is too complicated to understand completely.

I'm interested in yoga philosophy and general non prescriptive concepts about 'God'. I don't mind believing there could be an undefinable higher power. It's possible.

    Can religion help?
Yes it can. Networks. Support. Motivation. I've seen all of that at churches.
I think religion can be good in that way but i like science so haven't found anything really suitable for me.

I do totally believe in God .He changed my life in a big way.
But it wasn't actually because I had/have all the answers. It took me humbling myself and getting on my knees and asking him to show himself to me ,help me

Does it make me more successful ?Yes ,definitely, it comes because of the change in our character firstly and then yes he does promise to give us favour too as we live for him.

It's all about networking and personal connections. I know lots of examples of people getting employment and business contracts through people of the various churches or religious groups or clubs they belong to. My father had a printing business and belonged to the Masonic Lodge. He ended up getting all the printing work for the Lodges in the state.

I briefly worked for a member of a popular Perth evangelical church who had been raised a Seventh Day Adventist. He was a career con artist who had done nothing but go from one scam to the next for his entire working career. I was writing a book about my experiences working for him titled "Trust Me, I'm a Christian."

So I don't know if I'm going to win the lottery, I'm either going to win it or I'm not going to win it. So my chances of winning are 50%!

Not sure what religion has to do with success. But there are also plenty of mega wealthy who are religious.

That is true to a degree, although all humans intuitively know that stealing and murder is wrong. Slavery, not so much until recently.

There is a compelling argument that science actually has much to say regarding morality when it is considered in terms of human well being.

I'll take a look at your link later as I find this interesting.

Regarding all humans knowing murder and stealing to be wrong, I doubt this is the case in all countries of the world.
If stealing and murdering helps them get what they want within their beliefs, they probably believe they are doing good rather than bad.

If we were raised in the conditions of those with alternative beliefs, would you know any different?

The only universal common characteristic of all humans I believe to be true is the drive to survive in present and future.

    Didn't the Aztecs sacrifice humans!
    The chinese kill Tibetans?
The Vikings sacrifice humans too? (got this from the Vikings show, not sure how historically accurate it is)

    Define 'successful'.

I believe success involves becoming a critical thinker - something I don't see as compatible with religious belief. How Critical Thinkers Lose Their Faith in God (the headline of this is irritating - losing something suggests you'd need to have it to start with - but it's an interesting read)

    For what it's worth, I'm a non-believer.

I'm not always sure what being wealthy has to do with success either, tbh.

This is just so sad. How selfish and brainwashed was this person.

As far as the question of the thread. I regard myself as successful and I range from Agnostic to Atheist.

As Jennifer touches on, success needs you to think critically and also to act independently if you have religious believe both these must contradict with any religion. Mind you there are some crazy things that happen in the motivational sphere which border on cultish behaviors which to me equates to the same behavior and believe systems as religious zealots.

Depends on ones definition. I think success is fulfilling ones plans or goals. If that was to be wealthy, and they now are, then they were/are successful.
