Do it. Most people with strong opinions have not visited. Best of luck.

I might go for a drive through North Ipswich as well. There's some lovely looking homes and a quick check on Google Maps (street view) suggests it might be a nice area.

I'll report my findings next week!

For anyone interested, we had a more extensive drive through Ipswich yesterday and I definitely understand the area a few of you were discussing around Denmark Hill now. I expect this area will be out of our price range but I'll keep an active eye out for certain. It's very very nice.

We drove around North Ipswich and Tivoli, there were some nice houses but the area didn't feel anywhere near as nice as the inner-Southern suburbs.

From an owner-occupier perspective, I think the suburbs that appealed to me the most were Eastern Heights and Newtown. Silkstone and Booval had nice pockets but weren't as nice.

We also looked at Woodend and Sadliers Crossing, both nice leafy suburbs filled with character homes, but being on the other side of town means that from a proximity to Brisbane perspective, it might not be as attractive to buyers such as myself who work in the CBD.

Good news is we've shortlisted 2 suburbs and approximately 8 streets across the two :)

I have an IP in the Ipswich area and the best information I got about the areas was to actually go there and check out the properties. There are good suburbs, beautiful suburbs, but also bad parts of good suburbs.

Personally I steered away from Redbank Plains. Whilst acknowledging the upgrades in the area, I also noticed quite a lot of land/house&land development, vacant land, and owners attempting to sell their vacant land to developers. I may be wrong but I just couldn't see the growth in a pre-existing property when it looks like there will be many sparkly new houses to compete with it in coming years.

Seems like the 2 suburbs you like were the two my wife and I liked also. Picked one up in Eastern Heights early last year. I think they are very under rated and somewhat undervalued.

I definitely think we've found a sweet spot, agents I've spoken to all say they're inundated with young couples such as ourselves from Brisbane whom are realising the lifestyle on offer in Ipswich is comparable to some of Brisbane's best suburbs, but for less than half the price.

Plus the relatively close proximity to Brisbane makes it attractive also.

We'll be handing out letterbox drops this weekend along our favourite streets hoping we might have some luck.

As quick update guys, we had an offer accepted for an off-the-market Early Colonial Cottage (built in 1886) on Denmark Hill (approximately 100 metres from the water tower).

It's pending finance and a building/pest inspection but it appeared very solid for a 131 year old home and oozes character.

We're very excited to buy our first PPOR!!!

Heard through the grapevines today that there will be some developments in the Goodna area in the future. Parts of that area are prone to flooding however...

Not this property, however it was by chance through a friend I had on Facebook whom (unaware to me) had recently become an REA in Ipswich.

We were very lucky as it's a tightly held area and it wasn't an exclusive listing so the agent was scrambling to get us in before anyone else. From what we understand there were 2 other offers made within an hour of ours being accepted (all investors).

We managed to get it for a song too :D

In regards to the letterbox drop, I'll definitely recommend it to anyone as I received 2 call backs from owners interested in selling. I'll certainly be using this technique in the future.

@Alfiesausagedog great work acting so fast! Congrats! Really nice spot and like others here, I think these well located properties will continue to do well and continue to increase in demand as the area improves. Would you be willing to share a link to the property?

I'm dying to invest in Ipswich. Come on savings, grow as quickly as Ippy's population!
