    hey,

Will be travelling to Canberra a few times in the next 6 months and had previously thought about buying a IP in the capital.

This IP will be held for long term, 2 kids under 3 now, so ideally would like to set and forget for the next few years

Which areas should I be looking at. I see the light rail stage 1 line is now running and stage 2 construction will be getting under way shortly.

Should I be looking in suburbs near the uni's?

Should I be targetting properties that are DoD have long term contract leases on?

    cheers

Maybe do some research, rather than relying on suburbs that someone else likes.

Thanks for your helpful reply - this sub-forum is titled "Where to Buy".

I have done some research, I would like to know what others think of - Where to buy in the ACT as an IP?

I can then compare to my notes and progress.

    Once again, thanks.

@skater is spot on with her actually helpful reply. You need to do your homework a bit more. What and where you have you researched? No spoon-feeding ;)

Bravo! Yes, it is. Thankyou for that.

Although the forum is called 'Where to Buy' it is not here to hold your hand and pick out what suburbs people should invest in. The intention is that you do some work yourself and not have others spoon feed you information that may not be right for you, in your situation.

Only you know your financial situation, and what will ultimately work for you. If you don't, then don't buy something until you know, then look for what fits in with this.

I am a big fan of public transport - so I have been researching properties to the north of Canberra Central.

Mostly concentrating on the Gungahlin area and surrounding suburbs.

Secondly, I have been looking at the Belconnen area.

    cheers
