Anyone have any reccommendations for books specifically aimed at children about wealth creation and investment? A few of my kids have been showing a lot of interest in budgeting and investing and such lately. So we have been having lots of discussions. My eldest child (14.5years) had been saving for an overseas trip with the school next year, and has been talking about getting a job to help save (all of hermoney so far has come for doing extra additional chores - none of my kids get regular pocket money, they have to do extra to earn money if they want it). The overseas trip is now off the table in light of the COVID-19 situation, so she has now started talking about the possibility of saving for a house deposit. My second eldest has also been gettig in on these conversations too, as he has some savings in his bsnk and really doesn't know what he wants to do with it. I bought the Barefoot Investor for families for my eldest children to read through. But I was wondering if there were any other books people might recommend that are especially geared towards kids. My eldest is extremely dyslexic, so the easier to read the better (or perhaps even podcasts or audio books).
Excellent. I'd recommend your kids attend a Peter Thornhill day (I personally think it might help if your kids have an appreciation of numbers). He also has his "Motivated money" book, but I think the education day is a better way to get the info. I also liked reading "Ordinary Millionaires" by Jim Bright. Easy to read book, and something your kids may be able to use to become millionaires themselves And for general personal development, read the Wikipedia on "How to Win Friends and Influence People". You can also try playing the "Cashflow 101" game by Robert Kyosaki. It can be frustratingly slow game sometimes, but in life, most people get nowhere. So its just like life
Like @Gockie said, Ordinary Millionaires is a good one, but one of my favourites for rank beginners is The Richest Man in Babylon, followed by The Wealthy Barber. They are essentially the same book, but Wealthy Barber updates it from a fable to something more tangible.
The Richest Man in Babylon (spend less than you earn and invest) Money discussions with Kid's are also great to foster their interest and development My eldest son who is a tech person uses Spaceship to invest , it contains companies such as the below, many of which are known or of interest to him
@Rugrat the best book suggestions are already listed by others above so I have no suggestions there. I do however have a interest in dyslexia and teaching adults to read. I am sure as a parent you probably know lots more than me! However just in case it helps if you can find anything that presents the information in numbers, tables, graphs etc people with dyslexia are usually absolute wizzes at understanding, interpreting and remembering this information. Another tool we have used is to break the information down into small bites of information and present it in comic form. Just draw stick figures with speech bubbles will do. Sorry if I’m to off topic, just a passion of mine
