    $50k sounds ok. We bought house in similar condition - took about 2 weeks (we did the painting, bathroom guy and kitchen guy worked same time.

    We paid:

    ~$5k for kitchen ($2.5k for cabinets, $3.5k install including plumbing/move taps) - kept existing gas cooker and rangehood. Retiled splashback and around stove

    ~$3k for bathroom (took out shower, replace with new base and screens, retile entire bathroom floor and wall to half height, new basin - left tub in place as it was still ok according to the tradie)

    Can't recall carpet - I think around $5k?? (3BR, lounge and hallway)

    Painting - DIY - could be ~$10k if you got it done
