    With negative gearing, the loss can already be reduced by 25-40% depending on the landlord's income bracket.

    If the gov wants to offer more help, how about allowing all property owners to use their mortgage payment to offset their taxable income (even for non-IPs, i.e their primary place of residence)? just for the 4 months Mar thru June of course.
