Diferent states have different rules and I learnt something new whilst driving in Perth a while back, you guys indicate left when exiting a roundabout, even if going straight through. In vic we don't do this, but just read that yes we do, only when practical to do so. I don't know when practical is practical.

This video explains indicating, but never new indicating left if practical upon exiting a roundabout.
Any vic drivers here ever indicate left on exiting straight through?

Turning left - indicate left 30 metres before.
Turning right - indicate right 30 metres before, indicate left just prior to roundabout's exit
Going straight - indicate left just prior to roundabout's exit

In saying that, not many roundabouts here as our state govt has an unhealthy obsession with traffic lights

Even going straight through you indicate left prior to exiting...cool. It's not mandatory in Adelaide though?

I believe it's Australia wide now ... you should indicate left just before exiting a roundabout (even if going straight ahead).

Obviously it's not always practicable on very small roundabouts - but you should try if possible.

Do you indicate if you have a SUV so you just drive straight through and not worry about the thing in the middle of the road?

Think about other drivers trying to guess what you are about to do, exit or continue around? If you indicate correctly then your intentions will be more clear.

Yes agreed. But going straight through doesn't help other drivers.

Anyone ever traversed a roundabout in Vietnam....and lived?

It does if someone is waiting to enter the round about. You are on the round about and could continue in front of me or go straight ahead. If you are not indicating, I won't know if it safe to go because you could continue around. If you indicate you are going to exit then I know it is safe to go and you won't drive into the side of my car when I enter the round about. It absolutely makes a difference.

I crossed the one in front of Ben Thanh by foot - thought I'd take a video while crossing to show my friends back home - lost concentration halfway and nearly got killed! Yep - it's definitely up there with extreme sports.

Actually who needs the roundabout - trying to turn into this traffic from a side street is fun enough!

The best thing I learned was to imagine there was no roundabout at all. You are approaching the intersection (pretend the roundabout isn't there). You want to turn right, so you indicate right before entering the roundabout, then when past the last exit before the one you want, you indicate left to exit.

You want to turn left, so you indicate left before entering the roundabout.

Want to go straight ahead, you enter the roundabout without indicating and indicate before turning into the road that would be straight ahead if the roundabout wasn't there.

That doesn't stop me hating double lane roundabouts, which scare me silly. People have no idea on those double ones.

I usually indicate left when exiting a double lane roundabout and I am on the inside lane. Not on a single lane roundabout.

We don't indicate left on exiting through a straight in vic, if I'm approaching the roundabout or already at the roundabout I wait till the car on the oppposite side continues through or if it hasn't approached the past the midway point, I go ahead. So it hasn't helped me, guess knowing it's exiting through a straight would be nice. I'm unformiliar with this driving rule

There are a few three-lane roundabouts near me. I always try to go through on the left-most lane though.

Years ago I had a hire car and was traveling from Cairns to Port Douglas.

There were some really wide roundabouts on the way and we got tooted at a bit.

Still not sure what we were doing wrong...

I think in Brisbane people always tend to indicate when leaving a roundabout. In Sydney it's probably less than 50% of the time.

Always best to indicate where possible. I grab the stalk and indicate wherever necessary whilst driving. Lets other drivers know where you're going.
