    Hi all,

    Me and my wife have been searching for a good Independent financial planner or advisor. We have performed several searches and gone through moneysmart website, choice website. With all the information what me found we shortliated some and then check their websites got very discouraged as they have set criteria regarding who they can work with e.g. people about to retire, prpfessional couple who earn $ 300K pa, people who inheriated money etc and there is no fee structure given ( this is just a general overview of what i understood).

    We are in control (that's what we think) and just had baby and would like to get professional advise.

    Could anyone please advise on any giod financial planner or ahare their experience.

    Thanks in advance.

    What do you require advice on? I have found that many people in search of 'financial' advice are really seeking legal and/or taxation advice but misunderstand it as financial advice.

    HI TERRY,

    We have ASX share portfolio and few IPs and just had a baby so looking into getting an independent financial advice on putting up a strategy for future. We also thinking about smsf and other investments like vanguard or Platinum. Ofcorse we want to know the strategies to reduce taxes.

    In that case it sounds like you do need a financial planner, but also a tax adviser was well.

    @Newfast, as you live in Sydney, you might like to contact Nick Moustacas of Strategic Wealth Management.

    I have used Nick's firm for many years, mainly as an accountant/tax advisor although I have used them for some financial planning. Nick is a great believer in investment property, not like a lot of other financial planners, who only focus on shares.

    @D.T. , are they independent?

    I will do some research.

    Much appreciates your input.

    They like recommending property too (most FP's shy away from property because they either don't understand it or because they get commissions on managed funds).

    Yeah that's old news.

    Good ones aren't cheap, you are better educating yourself and getting a good accountant.

    Sorry. I have been with them for years. They send me a bill and I just pay it. They have saved me a lot more than I have paid them.
