Oh wise ones, I have an IP in NZ. My agent wrote to say there is a $3.75 fee increase per WEEK due to NZ govt introducing new legislation for insulation, smoke alarms etc as per file upload. I thought that a bit steep given they already charge a management fee and additional charge for handling renovations? The house is in a small town so there's only two agents on the ground but I am looking into the other agent's fees etc. I thought monopoly was just a real estate board game.... not a charter for doing business. (Yes, welcome to the real world Lily...)

@ellejay might be able to provide you with some insight.

In the land of Oz, some of these have been mandatory for years eg smoke detectors (are the agents charging for someone to test smoke detectors as well?) but other matters relate to commercial or strata complexes ie workplaces.

I don't recall fees having increased for these. Has the agent suggested that it's time for a rent increase?
