    So if many people lie on their applications, why do they scream so loudly about $&@&$ banks when things go sour?

    I had a broker suggest we "modify" my income and get my parents to sign off on it if they were willing (I work for them, letter saying I was given a payrise this financial year and a couple dodgy payslips). This was so we could get all financing done under my name only as my partner has terrible credit history, we could easily afford it all but it was stretching the truth far more then I was comfortable with

    Dependent if you're an existing customer or not - and if it's being refinanced. You actually need a whole lot less with CBA now days.

    I am sure that if you are in financial distress due to lying on your application you could go to ACA and complain that the bank didnt do enough due diligence and it is their fault :)
