    Hi if im wanting to build a granny flat, how much sqm land should i aim for ?

    You will need to check the NSW "design codes" or perhaps local council requirements. I am sure someone on here is well versed on NSW regulations but if not, give your local council a call. (If you know what area you are looking to buy in).

    @Classics?? you would need to check what the zoning is via your local council and then with a surveyor to see what you can legally place on the lot.

    All covered by SEPP10 in NSW - which overrides any council requirements.

    Just look up the code - 450m2 is the minimum for a detached granny flat.

    Design is equally important if you want to rent it separately from the main house - below is a link to some design issues but separation and privacy is the most important.

    Yes 450sqm in NSW. Maximum size for GF is 60sqm. There's a minimum frontage too. Also clearance of 3m from boundaries. A GF company can assess your block for suitability. I have one built in 5 weeks plus.

    Okay let me rephrase my question, im looking in Brisbane btw. Also if i was going to buy a house and planning to build a granny flat how much sqm should i aim for , 700sqm ? 850sqm ? Could i get it done on less then that like 550sqm or 600sqm ?

    Check with BCC

    BCC is not friendly to GF's like NSW
