Che k with the local police. Sometimes properties backing onto parks or reserves are subject to more burglaries due to easy and sometimes concealed access. Even worse if there are bushes close to the fence line.

Nah, our council cut back any shrubs and low-hanging branches when a serial rapist was jumping out at unsuspecting joggers in a totally different part of the city. The trees are all clear underneath so burglars etc have no cover and so the council cant get sued when people walk face-first into a pointy branch and hurt themselves.

We have a park next door and directly across. When we bought, we were warned by locals that we may risk a higher chance of being robbed- as park provides an easy vantage point to case property, monitor who’s home and when, etc. 3 years on, and no hassles. Perhaps a little more foot traffic on our street, but the visual appeal of the park, and advantage of no nosy neighbours (on one side) has far outweighed the potential risks. In fact, when friends visit, it’s one of the first things they comment on, how ‘nice’ it all looks from our deck/windows.

    What state is this?

My friend got council to pay half the cost of a replacement fence and his house was a corner block with only a council road next to it. His argument was that he should only pay half and since it's council land next door ( council footpath and verge) they pay the other half. I think this was in Melbourne

NSW however in Qld refer to Part 2 (14) which exempts local government as an owner. Linky

Council may at it's discretion contribute to the cost eg. hardship.

My thoughts entirely, on both accounts.
