Looks like a slate roof, if so you don't pressure clean, lichen and moss are a feature of slate roofs.

Ok. At least put some lichen and moss killing agents on it to pretty it up!

Lichen and moss don't actually harm roofs and they add to the character of elegant, older homes in leafy suburbs!

There you go, different materials and different looks.

Why would you kill off a feature of a Georgian or Victorian house.

As a side note my Great Grandfather slated the roof on the Royal Exhibition Centre in Melbourne,

Would seem that these are tile roofs as pressure cleaning a slate roof as you suggested doing would do considerable damage as severly shorten the life of the roof.

As to the ascetics that would be a personal preference.

Of course you consult a professional and it may just be a case of get some chemical stuff to clean it... surely it's ok to clean the roof of a 100 year old house every 30 years....

There is a lot more involved than just getting some 'chemical stuff'.

Very few people consult professionals, most roof cleaners are amateurs when it comes to slate roofs, lack the knowledge in how to clean the roof and how to even walk on the roof.

I wont even start to go into details on how to match slates, etc.

The moss would be growing back within 3 years, less in areas that are shaded.

I think your missing the point, yours was a tile roof.

Cleaning a slate roof involves a lot more work and can be quite expensive and for many actually detracts rather than adds value.

Yep. There is no way anybody with any sense would touch that roof. Looks original to me and the lichen etc is what would be holding parts of it together.

    Ok. Let's say maybe.
Ps. My new (circa 2013) vs. Old roof... :)
I reckon I wouldn't have loved this home when it had the tiles!! The new roof added so much value, well beyond its actual cost imo. I think this is the third roof this house has had.
