Was what the taxi driver said on Saturday night when I tried to give him a $6.50 tip.

He pick myself and wife up at T2 and when I said only Mascot he wasn't happy lol.

Anyway the trip was $13.50 I said here's $20 and he threw the change in my hand.

Yeah, taxi drivers wait at the airport for ages and then get snooty if they don't get a massive fare.

Meh - suck it up and do your job, I say!

I guess if they sit for an hour in the queue and then get a 15 minute job, so hourly rate looks poor.

I think the ones that work a bit smarter wouldn't have that problem, ie trying to knock out as many short trips as possible and trying not to wait anywhere.

Not sure why he wouldn't take the tip then?

I remember when I was 18 and would go out, there was a club close to a friends house - but no taxi would take us home at night because it was too close. It was either walk home in the dark alone, or have a designated driver for a 5 min drive! I would've been more than happy to give a large tip, just to save the hassle.

If I was a taxi I'd take the tip, and try to find another fare back to the terminal.

Is this a thing in Aus? Excuse my ignorance in advance! I've heard about its popularity in the states but didn't realise it had uptake in Australia.

    Cheers

Yeah I understand him being upset but man he was so rude.
    A short trip that's why I was giving him a 20.
Well next trip he may get the big one:)

    A wonderful thing, yes.

I've had a bunch of Uber rides in Australia (and overseas).

Destroyed taxis in every area: cost, experience, speed and service.

I have used Über overseas and it is simply brilliant.

Canberra is still grappling with the concept unfortunately.

Uber is outstanding. I got an anniversary email from them recently, I had done 1,163 trips in Brisbane in the last year.

Yep. at my last residence it was cheaper for me to Uber to the city and back then what I paid a month for my long term car park. Add a trip to visit a client in the middle most days and then various late night specials and it adds up.

And I have had 2 bad experiences in that time, rude drivers who just came over from taxis.

Hope you did the right thing and left them a wretched review so others will think twice before booking those drivers.

What sort of saving would one make over grabbing a taxi?
