I am replacing my old solar hot water system with an electric storage hot water system (rheem stellar). Additional electrical work is required for the hws to be connected to the economy tariff - the electrician is not charging extra for the additional electrical work if I wish to do so. IP is in Brisbane - 3 bed, 1 bath. Should I connect to the economy tariff or just go with continuous tariff - what is the norm?

Searching on here, it seems most are installing 250L, I have been quoted 315L. Is 315L overkill for a 3 bed/1 bath if I'm not connecting it to an economy tariff? (I understand that if connecting to economy tariff, I will likely require higher capacity likely 315L.)

Also, if anyone knows how to cheaply dispose an old solar hot water system, please let me know. I've been quoted $550.

    Cheers.

The norm is to put your HWS on Off peak.

Almost all storage systems are on off peak regardless of size of the tank so you should be fine with the 250L.

Loads of people will take care your old HWS off the street for the recycling on a council clean up. Its free cash. Call a plumber they will pick up for nothing

Mine is a rooftop solar unit. I made a few inquiries with Council and solar panel recyclers. They don't accept them. Council does accept the old electric water heaters.

Thanks, contacted Energex as well and seems like this is the case. Most are off peak.

Isn't a 125 Litre electric hot water system sufficient for 4 people? According to the specs at Bunnings and the DUX brand you don't need more than 125 litres. 250 Litres is for 6 people.
