You do it by plugging this:

The trip to Victoria was definitely worthwhile!

The neighbour behind us plays the trumpet (doing his B Music at the conservatorium).

One adjoining neighbour complains about it (we're next to it and it doesn't bother us at all)

I wouldn't object in the least. Listening to a competent musician is a joy to me even if it's a Bugler practicing the Last Post up on Mt Ainslie when we were having a stroll around there.

As for my neighbours, they are safe at the moment. The pics of the rig are from where my son is staying. He collected the goods and will get up here in early December.

My neighbors listen to great music. Weather they like it or not!

We had neighbours at one property where the kids played drums and electric guitar. Never really bothered me as it was great to listen to the young uns having fun ... and the room was semi-padded to reduce the sound.

... except for one day - when they had everything turned up so loud it was deafening. So I popped over with a quick "do you mind" to the dad (who was working in the garden). The kids thought it fantastic - they'd had their first sound complaint :)

Colleague of mine was telling me his brother lives next to the consular general for Japan in South Africa.

He was saying he must really love African music 'cause his brother was having a party and playing the music loudly. The Japanese consular apparently had all the lights on until after 4am when the party started to die down and the music went off.

Yeah, I am pretty sure the reason is is 'cause he really loves African music!

Take up backyard archery (legal). Drill an arrow 6 inches into one of their trees (not so legal)...

What I expected from this thread - my suggestion was going to be to build a boarding house.

    1. Build to annoy:
      • Subdivide to maximise density and then invoice neighbors for half the inflated cost of fence.
      • Construct on boundary.
        • To maximum dimensions as permitted under planning regs.
        • Their north Boundary is highly recommended to block maximum sunlight in winter.
        • Forget to backfill after construction and then blame neighbor for not granting access.
      • Block Views
      • Locate windows high up to overlook into their backyard, bedroom, bathrooms. A level higher than neighbor's dwelling is optimum for violation of privacy.
      • Keep fence height to minimum permitted by council.
      • Blame neighbor / their dog for inability to put up temporary fence.
      • Direct the motion activated lights or/and (dummy) cameras into their backyard or/and bedroom.
      • Use light colours of colorbond to maximise glare in summer.
      • No tradie is allowed to cleanup the shared driveway till construction is over. Inspect after rains to prevent inadvertent violations from overzealous tradies.
      • Refuse or better still do not turn up for all informal mediation and reconciliations efforts.
      • Other spite ideas: 15 Obnoxious Homes That Were Built Just To Annoy The Neighbours
      • Paint ideology to annoy neighbors (see pic below): The woman who painted her house in bright stripes to annoy the neighbours
    2. Get council to fine and visit them frequently for:
      • Illegal parkings e.g. parking/driving on nature strip.
      • Not mowing.
      • Pet ownership issues
      • Illegal burns
      • Anything else that goes wrong in the street or your imagination can conjure.
    3. Get a restraining order. Preferably before step 1 and 2 to justify 1 and 2 as well as avoid unnecessary arguments, complaints during construction.
    4. Rent to bogans at a discount, so they never leave.

So I bought a projector today (great 2nd hand deal on FB), and we intend to watch movies on weekend nights against a large brick wall in our backyard ie the back of the townhouse to the rear. Our neighbours on the side will be able to see the screen in all its glory though.

Provided the sound isn't loud, do you think a movie screening from say 8-10.30pm would be 'inconsiderate'?

Wasn't the intention to go that far lol. Was referring to the 'considerate' threshold vs legal threshold. I could just ask/forewarn them I suppose

Our neighbour is an opera singer. She now practices in a newly-built studio (in the back corner of their yard).

We had the opportunity to object to the studio being built, but didn’t. Spare room - no problem.
Opera for 3+ hours today with the glass doors wide open. It’s a bit much.

We have the same situation but it doesn't bother us too much. The funny thing is when their dogs start howling while she is rehearsing.
