    away from property or porch.
i read that putting a plastic snake where they can see it is one deterrant
and hanging cds that reflect light and mess with their eyes

is it a widespread problem or more prominent close to parks or shops or certain places?

A lot of large building that have big wide doors for vehicular/truck/ forklift traffic will hang fake owls/bird of prey from the overhang to scare away small birds that sometimes can gain entry and then find it difficult to get out or to make a nest.

Pigeons and other birds will be plentiful where there is ample food. So yes in parked where there are dustbins and people feeding them.

They come home at night to roost. A marksman is the best pest control unfortunately.

We need more information on the issue Justine if you want good advice. You will get much better advice if you put the time into providing the forum members with a context.

If the Pigeons are sitting on awnings, gutters, etc, then you can get spikes that don't look too unsightly and keep them away. You also want to make sure they can't get in anywhere to nest, so make sure they can't get into the roof or any safe little overhangs. Keeping them off the porch is probably a harder one- though it's not a common spot for them to spend a lot of time if the tenants are around?

So, is this a hypothetical ?

I remember the vice President of the US....Biden, that is the one, said shotguns are good at scaring people if you fire a few into the air, maybe in this pigeon infested unit block that may work as well (just get a permit, were not like the US where firing of shotguns on the balcony is common and accepted, people here do not like their dinner or peaceful enjoyment interrupted).

Are the pigeons noisy when they 'have passion' too?

These dirty Pigeons aren't even taking it to the bedroom, they're having passion on the balcony .
