    I'm about to install a bracket for a wall mounted clothes drier in a laundry. The wall is tiles and I tried using the studfinder and I ended up with erratic results, probably due to the thickness/screading of the glue behind the tiles.

    Any thought?

    Jump up in the roof, see if you can see where the joins in the frame are and make a small hole in the plaster from up in the roof to mark it.

    I'm all for DIY but remember there's possibly water pipes & power cables running around in there that don't take kindly to a drill bit, could potentially work out cheaper/safer to use a tradie (who has insurance).

    This might help, 1st one shows how to make it, second shows it being used with tiles;

    Is the whole building not double brick if it's a unit block?

    Does the line of tiles cut off or the entire wall is covered,if it cuts off then maybe try above the tiles run the stud finder around 300-400mm centre from the start of the wall,a mate of mine bought a 100dollar metal detector from Adli and that tool is priceless picks the centre stud screw line every time..

    Why do you have to find the studs? Just use hollow wall anchors or toggles.

    I think they are installing an electric dryer, too heavy for anchors especially when you add the weight of wet clothes.

    @York I thought the same, especially considering the laundry wall is most likely a common wall.

    These are great for hanging pictures, static objects, I wouldn't trust them through gyprock with the vibrating/wobbling weight of a clothes dryer, especially when full of the extra weight of wet clothing/items.

    My first question would be:

    How did the studs get in there in the first place?

    I've installed dryers onto fibro before without issues. Wall anchors do have advisory loadings.

    If all else fails fix a batten to the wall to spread the load.

    @JK200SX , just in case you haven't considered it.

    No idea the layout, whats in there etc, but Is there anyway you can place it on top of a front loader (if you have one) or install it under a bench, preferably next to an external wall/window for moister ventilation.

    Note to self, dont buy a house off of rpi. He has peoples bodies stuck in his wall cavities.
