    Hi, Guys

I am planning to convert house from 1a to 1b for rooming house. I am told by one builing surveyor that access consult could help me with exemption and told by one certifier that it is illegal without disability access in the rooming house.

Which one is true fact? And is there a way to get exemption?

    Thanks heaps.

Well, I guess you should go with the surveyor who said they could get you an exemption...

Said they could “help you”, not a guarantee they would be successful.
Maybe a ploy to get your business?
Perhaps the other certifier was just being honest?

It might be worth having a talk with Council to find out how often an exemption / dispensation gets granted and in what situations.

You may find that meeting the accessibility requirements will increase your tenant pool. This is because the people who live in rooming houses are usually poor and often this can be related to having physical disabilities.
