I still remember you logging on and posting as me .....until I made you create your own account.

When answering questions from newbies, you DID have experience, by association. Over the years you learnt a lot at home, so when asked a 'silly' question, you gave out advice with the amount of clarity as someone who had been in the 'game' for several years. There was no evidence of your years in your posts, except when you told people your age.

    What about Dazzling???

To me he was a highly valued contributor to the Somersoft forum and was evidently very successful. Many of the comments he made had gold nuggets in them but of course he upset plenty of people with his abrasive style. I was disappointed when he stopped contributing.

I was Pursefattener on the old forum.

Dazzling, Dazz, TPFKAD. I got on well with him. He got banned and didn't re-register.

He definitely shot from the hip, loved his posts (amongst many others)

@skater how about JamesGG we've not heard from him much either whereas his father was a bedrock of SS

He was awesome. He just came unstuck because he hated residential landlords who were too to much of a soft touch, when it came to giving into tenants demands. Threads like "my tenant wants an airconditioner/deck/new kitchen and I can't afford it." Well, you don't have to do it, you know. They can go rent elsewhere, but many inexperienced LL's feel that they need to do everything that a tenant asks. He wasn't subtle & often spoke his mind.

@Redwing he’s good! He’s enjoying the quiet life away from it all. Much like Dale :)

Wow, she was 14 when she started on the forums in 2006? I thought this was a joke but just figure out it literally is half your life when you figure out the ratio..

Pretty cool! Hopefully she has built up a nice portfolio by now.

So, what is the property story from all of this ?

Invested every cent and more in property and made a gazillion - or saw the stress involved and steered clear ?

Just wondering if there is a leading indicator here.

Wow, there's been a lot of surprising stuff going on in the last 3 months, so it's hard to argue that this news wouldn't get added to the list.

Are his shopping centre cleaners on JobKeeper?

Haha, not quite. He did retire from accounting, but is now working a job he loves and he works part time. He also took over as primary carer for Benji (almost 8) and we have a second one coming later this year - surprise for those that know me because we haven't announced it!

Yep. Currently 28, I think I logged into Mum’s accounts a few times as young as 13.

The story doesn't quite go to plan, but it's not all bad.

I was married at 20, first child a week after I turned 21. That same year I had Qura set up and started trading at 22. I didn't draw an income for a long time, we lost everything and almost completely folded.

Now, we're not property tycoons, in fact those investments were sold with everything else. James has no interest in property, but I still do (obviously).

It was a huge step back and unforeseeable, but we were resilient and came out just fine and recovered very quickly. I have a great little family, a business asset worth a penny or two and I now draw a reasonable wage that allows James to do something he loves.

I'm fortunate that I had the knowledge from my parents and these forums. Without this education, it would have been very easy to give up. I learnt you can never have enough buffer (see here), and that losing everything you have worked for shows just what you're capable of... and if you're going to start over it's better to do it in your 20's!

Maybe a bit of a let down for those that were hoping I was the next Nathan Birch. But we're comfortable and happy, still aiming to retire at 50 which I think is feasible.

Yes, it was a shock at one of the meets to find out that I'm all but old enough to be your grandad!

Yes, you did. She used to sit on my knee and attack the keyboard. :)
When does it ever go to plan?
Haha, it certainly is. I wasn't in my 20's, so you're a step ahead already. :)
Nathan? No, knowbody wants you to be Nathan.
