A lot, especially when choosing PPOR.

On the other side of the coin, also opportunities missed on investment

Yes. Most definitely. In order to buy at the cheapest possible price, I look for areas where there is the highest crime rate.

Take, Mt Druitt as an example, just off the top of my head. Where else in Sydney can you still pick up a house on a decent block of land for around $450K. No where else.

All thanks to a suburb full of unemployed, petty criminals. Love them or loathe them, these bogans do have a purpose in society........and that is to decimate the median price of a district and allow the savvy investor to move in.

Redfern wasn't a particularly nice place... when I bought in the area people would be walking past an Aboriginal tent embassy.... few months later it was gone....

One of the top-5 crimes in Norlane is breaking a court order/restraining order. Given i don't have one nor have any kids/exes that's a lot of crime stats that will never affect me. I do feel that a lot of the crime in any case is as Tony Abbott said..'Baddies vs Baddies'. That is, criminals who take action against other criminals like drug debts and stuff. If you're a normal person uninvolved in any of that stuff, most of it passes you by.
