You walk down any street in the World ,and you wonder if anyone ever measured the time people can go without looking into their phone and the natural stimuli that comes with mobile modernity and all the conversation taking place in different locations at the same time worldwide..

About 1 second. Would be good if I spent the time looking at my phone doing something productive instead!

8 hours. My fitbit times it for me every night.

But seriously I think my life would be better without my phone. I need to find a way to remove it from my daily life.

I work from home so I don't have a daily commute (other than the treacherous journey through the lounge to get to my office where I've previously broken my toe when I kicked the ottoman or when I step on small toys the kids leave lying around there).

So when I do go somewhere by myself I tend to listen to podcasts while I walk because otherwise I don't get time to do so.

I'm not exactly "looking" at my phone - usually it's in my pocket and I have headphones in.

If I'm sitting on a train or sitting around waiting for something, I'll check on things on my phone - but that tends to be largely business related stuff.

I know my wife is getting frustrated with the volume of text messages and chat messages she gets - every school group or sporting group wants to be on WhatsApp or some other messaging platform, but the other mums don't seem to restrict the discussion to the topic at hand and so it becomes a general group chat which wastes a lot of her time filtering through the rubbish to get to the stuff she actually needs to pay attention to. There's often nobody "in charge" of the group, so noone is taking any responsibility for ensuring that things are done efficiently. This means my wife is spending a lot more time on her phone than she ever used to and she's not entirely happy about it.

Fortunately she does have a separate work phone which gets ignored when she's not at work or not on call, so it could be worse.

I refuse to have the internet on my mobile phone - it's a phone and camera (camera being top priority) and alarm clock only. Usually I only pull the phone out the check the time.

Fortunately I work from home to, so my only online device is my laptop - which generally stays on my desk. I listen to the radio in the car as I drive a lot, but otherwise I love the peace and quiet.

Depends what you're doing on your phone that's important.
I was hesitant to get a smart phone when they came out, but my wife kept saying how stubborn I was not to make the change.
Now I use it all the time for useful tools and research stuff online all the time, international Skype training sessions, etc.
Saying that, could adapt without it but it's not causing problems so you do what you do.

I use mine so much, that I can conveniently 'forget' it at home.

Was going to have a technology free day but then again I work on the cloud and access may be slightly difficult should I rely on my abacus or snail mail.

When sleeping or on holidays, phone gets put down and I get a reset. Need it all other times.

Same. I'd happily throw my phone away if I could.

My phone is a work tool. No music, I dont use social media. I would check it a couple of times a day for any voicemails or sms's.

Most of my work is done off PC

My phone is with me all the time, it replaced a watch and those brick things we used to carry :)

Only thing I do not like, is when I have time to take calls etc, it sits silent, as soon as I drive or in a meeting or other important thing that will only take me 20 mins or so, it rings and beeps and carries on like an electronic child :D

I can go quite a few hours without using my phone in any way whatsoever.

    Then I wake up.

I usually charge up my phone on a Thursday night... for the wake up call on Friday Morning.
    Does that count?

I'll be going cold turkey for 5 days on a trek in Kenya in July. Another trek to altitude. Will be no phone signal or wifi and will be good to have a forced break from the connected world.

Will use my phone for photos. Will also load an ebook on it.

Taking a solar panel for charging some USB battery packs I will use to keep my Camera batteries, phone and Garmin charged.
