The U3A Canberra has cancelled events for the foreseeable future and closed its offices. Pity as I enjoyed attending the regular talks it organised.

Some musical events by Canberra Symphony Orchestra have also been cancelled. Wondering if the same will happen with the Wesley Music Centre events.

Wondering if the Sydney Symphony will be cancelling shows at the town hall? Wait and see.

Since you asked, here they are:
    1. SFO Trip - paid for airtickets and we have to cancel it. Copped massive penalties.
    2. Harbin Trip - paid for airtickets and Airline cancel it. Have to pay Admin Fees to Agent
    3. Just started selling our IP last week, REA had first Open and had a low-ball offer. Praying hard it would go well today.
    4. Son's office is talking about working at home. We dread the idea that the three of us will play happy family 24/7 for weeks or even months. Interesting time!
    5. No more home parties, bring-a-plate, restaurants, movies...
    6. All social media (FB, WhatsApp, WeChat...) only talks about the Covid.
Someone talked about Travel Insurance. I believe none of them cover pandemic.

Friend and I returned from Bali 11 days ago, friends son had also booked a Bali trip in a few weeks as a surprise birthday present for friend . Both son and his wife had been told by respective employers they would not be permitted to return to workplace for 14 days post return, needless to say, they’ve cancelled.

This weekend was supposed to be the Little Athletics NSW State Championships here in Sydney - the culmination of 6 months of training, competition and preparation. It is very prestigious to qualify for the state championships because the level of competition is very high.

My son qualified in his two favourite events - the 100m sprint and the 80m hurdles. He has been training really hard all season - and I have dedicated a lot of time to taking him to training and to the various competitions he needs to compete at to qualify. He had a good chance of medalling in the 80m hurdles.

So naturally, we were both very disappointed when they cancelled the event at the last minute yesterday afternoon.

I had heard the suggestion of a ban on gatherings of more than 500 people - but I had hoped we would get through the weekend before that came into force. Indeed when the announcement was finally made - the restrictions are supposed to start on Monday. But the managing body decided to be cautious and cancelled early - which has made a lot of people very angry, especially given the relatively low risk to the kids and parents.

I was a bit upset at first until I remembered that this is a volunteer run event - there are a lot of people who give their time freely to officiate and help at these sporting events. In my experience, many of the people involved are also in the older age groups - and so potentially more vulnerable to the virus. Once I considered the impact that holding the event might have on our volunteers - I realised that cancelling was the right decision, it's simply not worth the risk.

So now we have nothing on this weekend. Chance for me to catch up on some work :(

    - Teens school camp cancelled (expected this weeks ago)
    - Hubby and I bailed on the annual social ball in two weeks time (expect it to be cancelled anyhow)
    - My pantry looks like I'm a doomsday hoarder and I still feel under prepared
    - Been stocking up on Codral, Panadol and Neurofen for 4 weeks (one packet of each for every family member)
    - Netflix account paid up
    - Expecting school to close early for April holidays
    - Holiday accommodation bookings still strong but expect them to drop off or cancel (still trying to catch up with the bills from the bushfires)

Fortunately we're already pretty much homebodies - and I work from home - so no dramatic lifestyle changes ... and ... even more fortunately the farm sold 1 weeks after the "ahem" hit the fan so, even if they pull out or postpone, we'll get the sitting-in-agents-trust-acc deposit to bide us through until things bounce back (I know, makes me sound mean hearted)

Okay - I just emailed solicitor and agent with "if they can't settle on time due to virus, we're happy to postpone final settlement for "up to" four months but must have full access to the deposit on the existing settlement date"

Our swimming comp State finals are still on, we were hopeful of them being canned but I still had to make the drive to @datto's backyard in the 'riff.

    Can't go to gym, closed
    Can't go to pool, closed
    Can't do Castellers, all cancelled
Can't take kids out anywhere, they are home quarantined.
Can't go to my beach house in case that town gets quarantined and police stop me leaving, which has already happened to four towns outside Barcelona.
July trip to Australia not going to happen
Swiss hiking trip not going to happen, may do Pyrenees instead.
Soon all bars and restaurants banned from opening, already happened in a lot of the country.

Went for a walk yesterday at peak hour, much fewer people around and no children anywhere, parks normally full of them after school completely empty.. very strange.

Nothing has impacted us that is really material... does anyone have any friends or family that are sick? That is the only thing that would affect me.

Was to go to the basketball finals tomorrow at Qudos, no spectators allowed now.

Cricket this morning it was recommended by the association not to shake hands or spit on the ball.

My son who has OCD about germs and washing his hands excessively is walking around with a smirk on his face.

Not sure if this is legit or not but a good read.

    - My receptionist daughter that moved out of home but spends more time here may possibly get phone diverted and work from home. She needs to line up at supermarkets before opening to get work toilet paper, soap and hand sanitiser. No hand shaking and all visitors need to use hand sanitiser on arrival

    - son - He can’t work from home, 2 other employees already been put in isolation after returning from overseas trips and unwell.

    - hubby - can’t work from home. He had meetings with plumbers and builders in worksites yesterday.

    - I had some plant sales yesterday. 2/2 cancelled. No sales today

    - My son is on his second year of Excel Racing. Last year he came 3rd in WA Excel Cup, Top Rooky and won Bursons Top Star Award WA. I was hoping to get him sponsors this week but it’s impossible now. Because he shows so much potential we’ve been injecting all our and his income to improve his car. I’ve had no spare money to stockpile on anything. He is meant to be racing at the MRF Rxcel Bathurst Challenge against all Excel clubs across Australia. It’s support for the Bathurst 6 hour event over Easter. It’s being televised on channel 7 and Foxtel. It was advised yesterday that’s it’s going ahead, I guess with no spectators. My husband and son are driving from Perth to Bathurst. I still need to raise about $1000 for travelling expenses but it’s going to get harder. See what Monday brings! I’m surprised it’s going ahead.

-Early Monday - will make stocking Up on food, dog food, medical a priority

-Thursday - my son is sitting for his practical driving test. I’m hopping it doesn’t get cancelled as driving with him to work 3 hours/day is driving me crazy!! Lol. Omg he brakes late!!

    - $750 stimulus would have come in handy, I hope if they do a second one they consider working lower income families and individuals that weren’t entitled to first hand out

My daughter is in the construction industry. She's very worried about her job. Not through any shutdown here - but due to the restriction in supplies coming into Australia from China. That's going to hit a lot sooner and harder than travel restrictions.

She works with a company building large buildings. I'd suspect that there is a possibility that late penalties on a construction could send her company to the wall. Repeat that for a whole lot of major constructions, and things could really get bad here.

One airbnb booking has been canceled. It was $3,000 too, so a big one.

More importantly, there have been no new bookings since it began.

    Apart from that, nothing.
