listening to my favourite youtube speaker Gary V , he talks about the amount of time people waste every day either at work or in private.

There is now a App where you can re-cord what you do every hour.

How much time you spend on the internet, wafching TV etc

Do you waste time during the week?

But then again should u be busy busy busy ,???

What about reading a book on your days off or whatever , now people would consider that a time waster ?

The worst are Real estate agents slotting in lousy 15 minutes to look at a house sale.
Thats not time management rushing people thru

Pretty good. 7/10. I'm mindful of my time & it's increasingly a priority as I get older & have less of it left.

That said, I tend to think people over emphasize time management & should focus more on Productivity. Unless you're incapable of being a functioning adult & are constantly forgetting to do things or running late, I think it's far less of an issue than people simply not being productive. There is an adage called Parkinsons law, which is "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion" and with few exceptions I think it's a trap people fall into.

They allow 2 hours to do a task for their job, they take 2 hours to do it. They allow 60 minutes to do a work out, they space it out to take 60 minutes.

I still block out time, but increasingly I'm focused on "beating the clock". A lot of the time activities still take how long I expected (or longer...) but it's a good way of battling parkinson's law.

    Interesting... Parkinsons Law:)

I wonder how many of us "imagine" we waste time and feel guilty about it.

Should say your day off on a Sunday be action filled or could you lsy in bed all day sunday and watch movies ?
Would u feel guilty you wasted time as oppossed to the guy who climbed mount everest , went to the gym, washed his car, took the wife to the markets etc

Being retired I waste a lot of time, but it’s my time and nobody else’s.
However, if I’m ever working at anything I smash it harder than anybody else would.
As long as you’re in control, you should be able to choose to do whatever you want that makes you feel good about yourself.

Everybody in our business identifies their 3 most important things we have to do before the day starts. We then check in every morning, reflect on whether we achieved our top 3 from yesterday and what is our top 3 for today.

It is a simple and great tool to make sure you structure your day.

At work, pretty good. I'd say 7.5/10. Have a small column in my notebook (paper one) breaking my 9am-5:30pm workday into half hour blocks. And fill it up, do the next day at the end of today.

At home, 2/10. Have plenty of time management tools and systems but when I'm just back from 4 weeks honeymoon and suffering from a wet cough - having 2-3 big tasks after hours is too much...

Waste is subjective. Sometimes I think the time spent ‘wasted’ is what allowed me to keep sane

When I was younger money took precedence over time, now that Im at the 50%+ mark time takes precedence over money.

I find that I am becoming more and more particular what I do with my time and generally only do stuff I like to do, or moving towards that.

Also remind myself to be present rather than dwelling on the past or thinking about the future.

We have the daily stand ups as well.
I think it would work for people who does high frequency of relatively smaller tasks but not really for a multiple larger tasks.
Eg: Tasks take about three days. If you have five of them then it would take 3 weeks. If you try to micro plan and break them, it would take four days instead!

We break them down to smaller parts of a large task. The goal is to have clarity on what you are trying to do in a given day.

And we are always struggling to do that. Typically somebody will respond “I am still go to look at x” and we have to say “what part of x”?

The goal is to get faster accountability.

Oh not that old chestnut again.

Yeah, well I took a sickie today hoping to mow the lawn which would have been an hours work tops.

I instead spent 14 hours on the net watching explicit videos. Who needs a time management diary to spoil your day!

Well according to some, I'm a bum all day, sometimes days in a row.

Do you mow around the car on the front lawn that has no wheels?

There are only remnants of that car now left. What's left of the chassis can be lifted with one hand while the other hand pushes the mower underneath.

Today I will meet with John to understand what he is doing about the share transfer document for the Appelby's.
I will also catch up with Ms Appelby and sound out what she thinks of how we are going so far.
I also want to go over the table of contents that Sarah prepared, for the stamp duty piece on the land transfer succession from Appelby Snr to Appelby Jnr to make sure the advice has legs.

So each person has daily goals. They are all SMART goals - smart, measurable, achievable, relevant and time based.

I protect my time, it’s the most valuable commodity I have and allow no one to waste it.

I choose who I interact with and who I do business with and who deserves zero of my time or headspace.
