Not great in work clothes, 7-8 min brisk walk is Ok, but I would prefer to dawdle a bit on the way there, maybe quicker on the way home coz I can shower.

I'd be ok walking 15 minutes in Sydney. Beyond that is pushbike territory.

I do not use trains much, but am about 1.5k from station now, anyway....it is too far, prior lived 800m away, that is ok, but if I was doing daily, I think 400m would be better

I would think under 1k would be best.

I catch public transport to work so for me it should be under 10min of moderate walk. Don't want to arrive at work wearing sweaty shirt. That being said, my previous PPOR was under 500meters from the train station, and now I moved to a new place and catch a bus to work with a bus stop 2doors from my place. :)

NSW (Mt Druitt), Sunday to Thursday about 500m or 4 minutes max otherwise catch a cab.

Friday and Saturdays up to 5 km or 1.5 hrs. These are usually big nights and therefore necessitate greater walking distances. Unless I borrow someones pushbike on the way home from the station lol.

Even when I on the rare occasion have to catch a bus..I'll drive and park near the bus stop, then catch the bus.

My home is only up the street. .

    Couldn't imagine myself walking 1-2km for a train. .

Obviously this is a very personal matter.

In Sydney, where train was my main mode of transport, 350-500m was perfect. Time is precious.

I agree, but so is health. I often walk from the train station to home on a nice afternoon. That would be my only exercise for the day. It's about 2.7m and takes around 25 minutes. I find it a pleasant way to spend less than 30 minutes on a nice afternoon :)

I have found 1km is ideal. Far enough away from the noise and whatever undesirables are lurking and an easy 10 min walk. 1.5km is really stretching it and gets annoying to do regularly and under 500m is too close for my liking

20 - 30 minutes would suite me as this is cardio taken care of.

Im glad to be a 10 min drive to my office and I do my walks during the day as a break from staring at monitors :D

anything more than 15 min is too much for me. These 15 mins include me leaving my apartment, stairs, lobby etc. red lights

In Brisbane has to be under 1k without needing a shower in work clothes in summer.

1-1.5km or 10-15mins. Really depends on weather and what I am wearing (ie. work attire), of course with my work though I don't really catch public transport.

I remember when I was about 16 I would semi-regularly walk from home in Lethbridge Park to work in Plumpton or the boyfriends house in Colyton. A little crazy now that I look exactly how far it was, but considering I only ever walked there or back and not both ways, it's not too bad.

The magic number used for town planning is 400m.

Apparently if you live within 400m of something the majority of people would not drive there. So in utopia you would be live within 400m of work, school, university, restaurants, shops, medical facilities. In reality if they can get you living within 400m of one of those it saves an enormous amount of car trips across a city.
