    Someone who prophesies doom.

Asking more so in relation to investing. Apart from those that are selling something on the doom, what about those that truly believe.

Anyone understand the internal mindset on how one is either born or becomes like this? How does one grow such strong conviction/belief?

    • Lose the roof over your head
    • Declare bankruptcy
    • Become disillusioned
    • Analysise the guru/data used to make your decisions
    • Declare that research poorly conceptualised
    • Claim that they're all crooks

From a psychology perspective, this article explains how our beliefs can be shaped by schemas: How schemas distort the way we see the world

See this video for how schemas develop: What is schema therapy?

That said, it's not hard to understand the permanently negative view on property prices if you consider the below charts. Do you think the same trend can carry on ad infinitum?

In before they find this thread... wait no... we're already there I see charts! :p

I don't really understand the mindset. It is basically closing your mind to any and ALL opportunity. We're in a particularly uncertain economic time globally, but we've always been in an uncertain time. Things are constantly changing, markets evolving, stimulus changing, etc.

Those evolve and adapt to the changing environment the best, are the ones that'll end up successful.

Those that sit on their hands and tell everyone how wrong everything is... and do nothing... will always have nothing.

I think whether born or becomes like this.....is irrelevant as long as the person realizes he/she can change that.
    The JR states that:
... when he gives example how you can present a sermon or read a book or listen to say podcast, yet why people have different results, different outcomes. Some will laugh or mock, because the are laughters or mockers, some will lie because they are liers, some will etc...
The main thing is to find the 'believers' because when they belief they can change and influence how they will choose to feel, "Is the glass half full or half empty".

I don't know that one is born with it - but if your upbringing is constantly fed - "filthy rich" - "no good comes from money" - "gold is the root of all evil" - "we'll never afford" - "can't afford" - or similar, then the blueprint is pretty much set ... unless ... one choose to break the cycle.

Breaking the cycle is really hard. I know because I did it (not relating to money but other life factors) - and comes from determination to work thru the past - how, why, what, where - question everything that you had been subconsciously taught on the subject, and rewrite the blueprint that had been imprinted on your brain.

Only problem is - the issue has to be recognised by the person themselves, and then they have to chose to challenge it. For the majority, it's easier to stick with the devil you know.
