I've spent a little bit of time in PNG, no toilet paper in remote villages there.
Makes you want to wash your hands that little bit more carefully after shaking someone's hand. :p

Surely a toilet-roll holder could be designed in a manner that forces either the under or over methodology... whichever is considered acceptable in the said household....

Reminds me of my favourite Indonesian dish, nazi goring.

I'm not sure why this thread wasn't a part of the "first world problems" thread.

The way that toilet paper hangs is a burning issue in the third world?

In much of Latin America, the issue is- do you throw the paper into a waste paper bin rather than flush it? The system in many places can't handle paper.

In many third world countries paper isn't ever used. Use the left hand and lots of water.

Do left handed people still use the left hand?

I assume that they do. It's the social norm to wipe with left, eat with right regardless of the priority hand. I don't think it's too difficult to use either hand for either job. To eat with the left hand is a very bad thing to do socially and would be noticed.

When I went to S E Asia many years ago I dreaded the squat toilets and the wet hand wipes. But I came quite used to it- and actually found the squat position far more efficient.

That's probably even more applicable now. It's hard to type on a smartphone while trying to keep balance squatting.

That begs the question - where do you mount your toilet paper holder?

Preferably on the left when facing away from the toilet.

Worked overseas in 5 star hotels.

Rule was always over and folded into a neat little point.

    If you want to impress.....

Ooh, can you get me some of those 'sealed for your hygiene' things?
I prefer to be first to break the seal.

Roll holder broke three years ago. Roll sits on cistern next to folded magazine. Glossy pages are no where near as effective as paper.
